I would try to catch a Mavs game if possible. I would hit the Uptown area for bar life. Skip the JFK mueseum, it is depressing in my opinion seeing where the sniper took the shot from etc.

Be prepared to shell out some money. The stadium is nice, but you can see just about everything you need to from the outside.

Its in the Cotton Bowl. Also, the rail system is good here in DFW. As for things to do the Mavs or Cowboys are always worthwhile attractions. The bars on McKinney are worthwhile.

Sadly, this is EXACTLY the conversation on here last year before we went to NYC.

JT Garcia's is the best pizza in DFW, and the Mellow Mushroom has the best pizza and its across the street from the beautiful TCU campus.

Might want to start asking about Memphis...Beal Street, Graceland, Blues music & BBQ is all I know about it.

    Fried Chicken and Waffles. Awesome

    Civil Rights Museum is good.

A lot of places in Memphis are sketchy.

Re: Places to stay/things to do Dallas

Hey guys, I've lived in Dallas for 4.5 years, so here are my recommendations:

Hotels: Best way to go would be Downtown. It is close to the Cotton Bowl and most entertainment venues. The pep rally will likely be downtown also. For those looking to save a few bucks, anything north of downtown along US 75 or the Dallas North Tollway is usually good. (Except stay away from the NW corner of 75/635, been a couple drug-related shootings there in the past few weeks.) I would recommend staying away from anything south of Interstate 30 or east of US 75.

Transportation: DART light rail is available from downtown and the US 75 and I-35E corridors (as well as other areas) to the Cotton Bowl. See map here. Highly recommend it if you do not plan to tailgate at the game, but take it far enough ahead of time, as it can fill up fast for large events like this. It is also possible to take rail from both airports via shuttle bus.
A few roads like the Dallas North Tollway and George Bush Turnpike are electronically tolled (i.e. no toll booths, they tag your license plate). If you have a rental car, make sure you get the prepaid toll option if it available. Since it's electronic tolling, they will charge the rental companies, and in turn gouge you with fees. I encourage you to research this option if you think you'll be going on a toll road while you are here. If you have out of state plates, last I heard they cannot charge you, so you should be able to get away with it. Not sure if that has changed lately or not.

Entertainment/night life: For those of you looking for bars/restaurants, the hotspot is the Uptown area, which is centered along McKinney Avenue immediately north of downtown. Many different bars and restaurants along this corridor. Dallas is a pretty relaxed bar atmosphere...you can be as dressed up as a frat boy or just as relaxed as wearing your Cyclone gear out. If people want recommendations for places, I would be happy to post on here. McKinney Avenue also has a free trolley called the M Line that goes up and down the street all day/night.
Other nightlife areas include the Knox Henderson area (US 75 and Knox/Henderson streets) and Addison (Belt Line and Tollway area). Adult entertainment can be found along the I-35E/Loop 12/Northwest Highway area.

Things to do: The Dallas Arts district is in the NE corner of downtown. I recommend a visit to the Nasher Sculpture center, and then a walk across the street to the new Klyde Warren deck park. The deck park opened just last month, and walk built over the freeway to "hide" it from downtown, and to link the downtown and uptown areas. The M Line trolley I described above also runs through the park.
The Perot Science Museum just opened yesterday, just north of downtown. I had the chance to go last weekend since my fiance is a volunteer, and it is a really cool facility. Probably took about 3 hours to check it all out. Highly recommend you check this out during the day, but be warned, since it just opened, and it will be Christmas break, it will be a full house (i.e., kids everywhere)
The Sixth Floor Museum is a must. Do the audio tour, then go down and walk on the "grassy knoll."
Do the stadium tour at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington.
See a Mavericks game at the American Airlines Center (if they are in town)
