This is true. I don't see those other sports declining like wrestling is. Yes, none of these sports make money, but they aren't in rapid decline like wrestling.

Re: Will ISU even score today against Iowa?

I think Jackson has had some good recruits and has actually taken them backwards. I have yet to hear him say that he has taken things in the wrong direction. I think that Varner and Reader were just lucky that they weren't with him long enough to kill their chances. If you looked at the successful careers that a lot of these young men had before KJ, all could concede that he's actually taken them backwards. Meeks, Kyven, Ryak, Luke, Cozart and the Moreno's were or are all young wrestlers that were super successful before getting with Jackson. Excluding Cozart all have a chance at successful careers, but without KJ. People can get all over Cael for leaving or taking recruits, but the man has actually developed wrestlers. There's a big difference in taking the nations most elite wrestlers, "OTC" and still not developing them. We can say that other countries don't wrestle collegiate style. But to start on the same level, and to actually regress, is completely the coach fault.

Re: Will ISU even score today against Iowa?

I am no longer patiently waiting for improvements. It has to change now. This is the one sport at ISU that is moving backwards. Last night's results are embarrassing. It's one thing to lose, and good things can come out of losses, but this simply wasn't a loss, it was an obliteration.

"Tonight's dual was disappointing," head coach Kevin Jackson said. "We had chances to win tonight at heavyweight, 165 and 141. At some of the other weight classes we didn't give ourselves a chance to win..."

He said that ISU could have won a total of four matches. WHAT?

He just said that we are only good enough to go 4-6 against Iowa in a dual match. WHAT?

Iowa won 5 matches by major decision and another by 10-3. WHAT?

Make an assistant the interim head coach immediately. Don't wait another day. Don't wait for another WHAT moment.

I usually make a point to try and watch this match. Didn't even know it was happening. ISU wrestling is so far off the radar it isn't even funny.

I think I would rather watch any other ISU sport than wrestling. I used to watch them all when I grew up, but wrestling is just not interesting at all anymore. Womens soccer is more exciting to watch.

I don't expect to see him back next season. I wanted to believe too, but it is obvious at this point it is not just rebuilding, we are getting worse. It is coaching. Pollard is going to have to cut the rope at then end of the season.

Re: Will ISU even score today against Iowa?

Iowa is only ranked #4 right now, and ISU won one match. What would the top three teams do to them?

Sorry, but KJ is not cutting it. His wrestlers are not agressive, and quite frankly, look weak compared to their opponents. I mean come on....you get a kid like Meeks who never lost in high school (Iowa's biggest schools) and he comes to ISU and appears to get worse? I realize he is wrestling better competition now, but this kid was dominant in high school. Now, he just looks lost out there. I have a feeling he would not look that way had he gone to Penn State, Iowa, etc. Just a hunch.

I'm not sure who the top coaches are now that might be available to hire, but something has to change. This has gotten to the point of embarrassing now. I hate that Cael left, but can't really blame him for it either. Financially, it was a much better situation for him and his family, plus it appears Penn State was committed to winning. I don't see that here at ISU any more, and that is too bad. This used to be a proud, traditionally strong program. I remember those days.....I was going to school at ISU then. Of course, back then, ISU was winning national championships in Men's Gymnastics too, and look what happened to that program.

KJ has to go. He is not moving this program forward, and is certainly not going to bring it back to a level of national relevance.

Re: Will ISU even score today against Iowa?

Iowa has beaten us 39 of last 41 times?!? I couldn't believe that when I first read it, but then remembered we used to have home-n-home meets every year.

    Either way this is embarrassing.

I agree with your assessment. Jackson is a DUD and has to go....If we cant afford a great wrestling coach then just dump wrestling....

The top 3-4 teams are all pretty close though I think PSU hss too much firepower come tourney time. After that it is a pick 'em. Injuries will determine the favorite come March.

Wrestling is actually GROWING at the collegiate level the past few years so I'm not sure you know what you speak of.

Thanks for correcting the other poster. Wrestling as a whole is increasing nation wide. The youth programs as well as ALL college levels are starting to see an increase in athletes and programs the last few years. Just because some conferences don't have wrestling doesn't mean the sport is dying. With the popularity of UFC (wrestlers are starting to make an impact in large #'s) more kids will gravitate towards this sport.

This is one of the stupidest excuses out there. Brands has been at Iowa for over 5 years, that means none of his wrestlers are transfers from VT. Honestly, each time I read this, all I see is butt hurt.
