    Re: Tablet?

I just bought a Nabi 2. Has the same processor as the google nexus but built for kids. Also can open to the mommy/daddy mode and run just like a regular google tablet. The only draw back I can see is there is no google play store, you have to get the apps from amazon store.

What you really need to do is start a 3rd thread.. The first ones are always full of dumb answers, the second ones are where the smart-arses empty their clip of witty responses about 2 threads.. The third thread is where you get down to the real solid answers

Mods, can you merge this with the other one. I posted this on my phone and it somehow posted twice.

    Re: Tablet?

We just ordered Kindle Fires (the non-HD) for our kids. It does everything you described and fits within your price range. They are regularly $159 but cyberMonday they were on sale for $129.

    Re: Tablet?

I would be weary of a tablet that doesn't have the google play store. I bought one of these a few years ago and its a pain in the arse. Some you may be able to flash with a generic version of android but it may still be buggy, plus do you want to do it and be in charge of updating etc? I would spend a little extra for the Nexus 7 which is $199.

EDIT: Admittedly I don't know much about the Kindle fire but it appears to run the android apps so that might be ($159) more in your price range.

    Re: Tablet?

You can buy a Kindle Fire and blow off the Amazon crap and just load the Droid operating system. Makes a great little tablet that way.

The Hawkeyes, who have lost six of their last seven games, were given a No. 11 seed and will be involved in one of the four first-round games by virtue of being one of the last four at-large teams to make the field. “It’s not a &%#$@%* play-in game!’’ McCaffery said when a reporter phrased it that way. McCaffery then hurled a bottle of G2 into the face of the reporter stating "you #$%*&@ idiot!".

    Re: Tablet?

Also ordered the nabi 2 for my kids. I wouldn't worry so much about the play store since pretty much everything's available on amazon or via third party install. Having a microsd slot is a huge plus for movies and music.

Not techy either. My daughter got one for Christmas last year. How do you get rid of Amazon crap and load Droid?

Some of these tablets won't let you install anything though unless it's thru their store. Unless you wipe it you're stuck using their crappy apps. I was able to get a few apk's on mine but I rarely use the thing since it was such a pain. I was waiting for a new droid install from xda (I think) but I finally just lost interest.

In a lot of the reviews, it was stated that the Amazon store is available for the Nabi2 and they are working to get it certified so it can use the play store. I assume the play store would be more for the mommy and daddy mode rather than the child if that were to become available. I've always had good luck with third party apps, but I haven't had the need to add much to the Nabi yet since it came preloaded with most of what they wanted.

Spec wise, the Nabi2 is the only kids tablet worth looking at too closely. Most have very little RAM and slow processors so they won't last long before they start to hang up and can't run many new apps. The biggest problem that I have with the Kindle and the Nexus is the lack of SDcard slot. Our kids like to have movies on the tablet for car rides so that would fill up most of the space right there.

One word of warning though, Android does not support the digital copy movies that come with Blu-rays. You need to find another way to rip the DVD's to mp4's directly. That just takes a google search.

    Re: Tablet?

So after reading a few more reviews I went with the FileMate Clear 7". I played around a little with it before wrapping it and it seems pretty good for what a 9 year old will use it for. A couple quesitons I have for some more techy posters on here. I've read about some different malware/virus protection for tablets and also being a Droid tablet it doesn't have Flash Player. What are some suggestions I can load for both of these? I saw some different ideas for both online so thought I would come to people I trust... Fanatics always know what's best for everything!
