    Can Redemption question

I know this is lazy of me but......do any of the local(Des Moines) grocery stores have those can redemption where you just dump a bunch of cans all at once in instead of just one at a time. My local Dahls here in Johnston use to have them but they went to the single can method, which bites.

The Dahls near me just switched back to the single can type as well from the large dump. The dump machines must not have worked right.

    Re: Can Redemption question

Since I'm not able to find the large dump machines, I just throw my cans away now.

    Re: Can Redemption question

This thread reminds me of one of the drawbacks of returning home. Stupid can redemption. I'd rather directly recycle than deal with the redemption process. Glad I don't drink much pop.

I used to go to that Dahls to return cans as well. Last time I as there was the first time I went after they switched to the one can at a time machines. There was the manager in the redemption area while I put them in one at time. After asking what happened to the old machines, I told him the only reason I ever came to that store was because of the old machines. The shocked look on his face was at least mildly rewarding for me while I was ****** off about having to sit there putting cans in one at a time.

    Re: Can Redemption question

My Fareway takes cans/bottles up to $10 at a time, but you get store credit (buy more beer). I have flats and fill them up,,take in, and bring flats back home. Or fill up the cardboard cases.

    Re: Can Redemption question

Murphy's Redemption will take back cans in cases or in bags. That's where we take our cans back. It's at 5356 Merle Hay Road. It's off the road a bit behind Sonics. Probably the 3rd garage in.

    Re: Can Redemption question

Just do what I do. I let the neighbor kid raid my garage about every month. The cans still get recycled, my garage gets cleaned out, I don't have to do the returns, and the neighbor kid gets some cash. Win-Win-Win.

Or you can just take the slip up to the register and cash it out.

So if you take in a bag of cans how do they handle it

    Re: Can Redemption question

For anyone in Ames, I used to take cans/bottles out to the Ames Redemption Center on East Lincoln Way...way east, past the Tip Top & on the right side as you head that way. They count and sort 'em. Takes a few minutes. Place smells terrible though.
