    Portable DVD player recommendations?

Anybody get a portable DVD player recently? One you can recommend (one way or the other).

Looking for something for the sister in law to keep the little one happy during their trips to Iowa from LA.

Don't want to break the bank, but don't want a POS either.

    Thanks in advance.

Both of ours are Polaroids with 7 inch wide screens. We've had them for 2 1/2 years and both the players and the batteries have held up well. We watched the ads and never paid more than $95 for either of them.

    Model numbers PDX-0074 and PDM-0723

I second the Polaroid portable DVD player. It has an amazing clarity to it. I think they are usually under $100 at Wal-Mart.

My laptop has a horrible battery time.... I was thinking of getting the DVD player for the Thanksgiving trip and for my trip to China this spring.... Does the Polaroid take up much room? On the China trip, I am going to have my laptop too.

Buy one in china. It saves on shipping from there anyway. =) Laptops suck for DVD watching in most coniditions. Thats all I have right now so I wont complain too much. I would like a portable one for myself and for the kids.

    Re: Portable DVD player recommendations?

On a related subject has anyone got a good solution to using a laptop on long trips in the car? We bought a power inverter a while back but it always ends up "overloading" and shutting down a few hours into the trip. I can't ever seem to find a car adapter through Dell's website either.

I think it's an inspiron e1750 or something of that sort. If it's on the Dell website then I'm sure I could find it, I guess for some reason I didn't think they had one.

    Re: Portable DVD player recommendations?

I bought a DYNEX at Best buy for $65 over a year ago. It has a rechargeable battery and a car adaptor. I went the cheap route because I assumed it would be abused, and I was correct.

I discovered that it can be dropped from 5 feet onto concrete, be used as a landing pad from a couch jump, internally hold a cup of water and still work like new.

Honestly alot of the off brands hold up very well. Sometimes they dont have the prettiest design and the best features, but if you are looking for something to just play dvds and have some portability you cant go wrong.

I'd say you just need a better inverter that can handle more power. I have one and have used it down and back to Kansas City with no problems.
