    Free throw troubles

I don't understand how we are so bad at free throws. We're currently shooting 65% from the line. This coming from a team that has a coach that hit 252/253 free throws in the Shots from the Heart competition? That seems unacceptable, especially compared to the other coaches that are good at free throws:

81%: Steve Alford's New Mexico Lobos
    78%: Sean Miller's Arizona Wildcats

Also, aren't 3 point shooters usually good at Freethrows too?

I could see this losing us a lot of games this year. I'm bothered by it because it seems easy to change, and we should be good at... as opposed to rebounding, which I have no idea how we're so good at.

If anyone can help fix these issues it is Hoiberg. He didn't shoot 85% in the pros by not knowing mechanics...

    Re: Free throw troubles

It was a problem in the Cincinnati game, and Hoiberg complained about it. Part of the problem has been Niang and I don't see how that will continue because he has good form and has probably had success in the past. I think we had some trouble with this last year, and even White was improving at the end of the year. Concentration problems for a team that is experiencing many new environments are not surprising. It will take time for these players to get used to this.

    Re: Free throw troubles

Niang's FT's were a real head scratcher in the Cinci game. I know he choked a few late in the game and he'd been playing a lot up to that point so maybe just fatigue.

What was our free throw percentage in the UNLV game? Seemed to be much better, although we didn't shoot that many (maybe like 10).

Sample size may be too small.

Remove the 0-8 among Okoro, Law and McBeth, and it’s 70.5%. Still not earth-shattering, but sounds a little better.

Plus, McGree is at 84%, Clyburn at 82%, who have the third-most and most attempts per game, respectively.

Well, yes, that means that he's probably our best FT shooter. But that doesn't mean he was our last really good one.

    Re: Free throw troubles

I have to admit, I wasn't heavily invested in the Cyclones during our last coaches Greg McDermott and Wade Morgan. They probably had some good free throw shooters. After all, McDermott recruited Christopherson, and he was very good. I noticed Diante Garrett did very well his senior year, .825, which led the team that year. It was important since Diante scored 66 pts off foul shots that year.
