After seeing a bunch of these posts, I looked up who officiated this match, and I know her. She is an international rated official, and one of the top rated officials in collegiate ranks.

I did NOT see the match - but talked to an official who did - and said that she was tight and consistent on ball handling throughout the match.

What are the odds that she knows the game and the rules better than those of you posting??

100% for me, but it is not always about knowing the rules. Whether things occurred or not is subjective.

Julie Voeck is the President of the PAVO (Professional Association of Volleyball Officials). She is obviously a respected member of her peers, those who know vastly more about volleyball and calling games than I do. I think we can give her the benefit of the doubt that the match was called fairly, consistently and professionally. This was certainly not her first rodeo...

Can't wait to see if we can topple some Trees this Friday!!!

    Re: ***Official NCAA tournament thread***

When I spoke of calls, because the feed that I get doesn't give you a perfect view of the game, I was merely speaking of calls which were not obvious, which I couldn't see clearly and were not in bounds out of bounds calls. Calls like people touching the net, making illegal touches ect. There is no way you can pick those up on the video, they would be difficult at the stadium because of distance from the match. When I go to a high school match, I can sit in the front row, right in the middle where you can get a fairly good view of those kinds of calls, and I still miss many of them. Therefore I was suggesting that of those kinds of calls, they were well distributed between the two teams throughout the match, at the end some fell against NC. That was pure coincidence. Volleyball happens even faster than basketball. It is a difficult job for the referee. I thought all of the matches that I have seen so far, I don't make judgments because it is too hard to see.

The more I read Volleytalk, the more I hope we just destroy Stanford. "Stanford sweeps, trying to make ISU out to be a threat is silly."

Tell that to Nebraska and Texas.

They would be nuts not to take us seriously, seriously! However I hope that is the case. I also hope Straube is back. We need all of our guns.

I don't mind them thinking we're the underdog, I agree, but some of them are so condescending. Of course, that particular comment was from a disgruntled Hawaii fan, not Stanford. We need to play lights out to take them down, and I really, really hope we do!

The more I think about this the less likely it is. While some dumb fans might take an Iowa State win for granted, I am sure the coach won't. They wouldn't hire a dummy at Stanford, one of the brain trust colleges in the United States. We would never be so lucky.

Pretty high:). I checked back at my post on this, and I did say it did seem there were more double-hit calls than usual, some questionable and some obvious. Also said it was consistent both ways, and isthe last call had been reversed, no doubt UNC would have happily taken it

No doubt she was very professional, and, as your Official friend said, she was calling it tight. Kind of like with traveling in basketball. If your used to getting a call all season, then they clamp down in the tournament, players and fans will get upset a little bit on the calls on their side.

Let's face it, it will take some luck also. We may be good enough to win without luck but we would really have to be playing at the top of our game. I hope CJL throws some wrinkles in her game plan to throw them off balance. She has shown us this team can change its look and still play very well in these last few matches. I think the game plan is as important as anything.

I agree it'd be a lot of things lining up perfectly for us to win......but man, I hope we at least take a set and give them hell.

I would really be surprised if we don't give them a run. Think about it, we took Texas by surprise at Texas and practically beat them. They had to know we were going to be a challenge in Ames and we still beat them. This team is capable of playing very well. I think we could get nervous, but I have a feeling we won't if Hahn has anything to do with it. She is really a bright leader. And we have a wealth of experience on this team.

That one dude is a whiny little *****. Oh well, we've gone further in the tourney for the last two years over Hawaii, so I guess that's more telling of who's the better team there. That's totally a 6th grade move right there, our girls will do their best and that's all we can ask of them. I'm looking forward to watching a great match!

    Re: ***Official NCAA tournament thread***

Volleytalk is full of blowhards and prima donnas. I mean, c'mon, we all know it's impossible for volleyball to exist outside of the Pac12 and Hawaii. That message board is so full of themselves I actually fell bad for B1G schools and I despise the B1G!!

I realize message boards are for tooting your own horn and what not, but show some respect to the sport. I lived on the west coast for 6 years and all I need to do is go to volleytalk to remind me what I couldn't stand about the west coast and that is the holier than thou, childish attitude. It's like a pack of teenage girls hopped up on redbull and mountain dew over there sometimes.

Whew, now that I'm finished tooting my horn, there are some level headed people on volleytalk who provide awesome insight and just a general passion for the game.

Are we the underdog? OF COURSE WE ARE, they're the #2 seed!!! Are we a push over, absolutely not. It's going to be a hard fought bloody mess on Friday night.
