Who ISU needs to root for this weekend

In order to get two Big 12 in the BCS

Look at it this way... At large teams have to be in the top 14.

Only two teams from the same conference can make BCS games.

10 teams are in BCS games

With 6 teams in the top 14 from the SEC there are only 10 teams that would be at large eligible...

Big East winner will not be in the top 14

Here are the conference allotments that will be BCS At large eligible/Automatic

SEC: Two Guaranteed that they get two
Pac 12: Two Virtual lock that they get two
    Big 12: Two
    ACC: Two
    ND
    Big 10: one
    Big East: one

That is 11 teams. Here is what we need to happen. Sorry, we all neeeeeed to root heavy for the SEC and teams most of us would probably not usually root for this week. Basically it is between ACC and Big 12 for that last spot. I'm basing this off just accepting the ND v SEC championship.

    1) Florida to beat Florida State
    2) South Carolina to beat Clemson
    3) Rutgers beat Pitt
    4) Louisville to beat Uconn
    5) Ohio State to beat the heck out of Michigan

1 and 2 will drop both ACC teams below Oklahoma if Oklahoma wins out.

3 and 4 will mean that Rutgers and Louisville will play for the Big East championship the last week and pretty much guarantee that the Big East team stays above Kent State (who if they win the Mac, are top 16 and ahead of the Big East Champ would get one of the the BCS spots)

5 will keep Michigan away from the top 14.

When you are 6-6 maybe we just need to be thankful for the extra practice and that we are not staying home. I imagine we lost any good locations with the loss yesterday but it's still better than staying home, I think.

Those of us considering spending good amounts to go to a bowl can pull for anything that would make it a better trip.

It depends on what is good? Some want the highest bowl in the pecking order, some just want to avoid the Pinstripe Bowl...

Thanks for doing this. Who do we need to win in our conference? Or does it matter if the BCS teams do what you have laid out here.

Both Kstate and Oklahoma need to win out. I do not see Oklahoma State jumping into the top 14 if they beat Oklahoma.

I'm moving to Texas in a week so I personally am rooting for either of the texas bowls.

Need OU to win out to have a shot at 2 BCS bids and increase our overall payday. And one of the ACC teams with 1 loss needs to lose. Still not a sure thing with Nd, SEC and likely PAC 12 locking up 3 of the 4 at large bids

I'm also cheering for Purdue to win to get to 6 wins and Mich St to beat Minnesota - so they both end 6 and 6. I don't want to play a MAC team, rather play a Big 10 team.

I like what you did there with saying exactly what I said except with fewer words...

Re: Who ISU needs to root for this weekend

Part of me only wants one from the Big 12 in the BCS. Let's say we get one because OSU knocks off OU or something. Things would almost certainly shake out close to this:

    Fiesta - Kansas State
    Cotton - Oklahoma or Texas
    Alamo - Texas or Oklahoma
Buffalo Wild Wings - Oklahoma State
    Holiday - Texas Tech
    Meineke Car Care - TCU
    Pinstripe - West Virginia
Heart of Dallas - Iowa State

Here are some pros of the Heart of Dallas Bowl:

    *New Year's Day bowl game
*Big Ten opponent (if they can fill seven bowl slots, which would require Purdue to beat Indiana and Michigan State to beat Minnesota)
*Best location of any realistic bowl for ISU in terms of travel, fan base in the area, etc.

    Some negatives:

*Low exposure - the game is on ESPNU at a time with a lot of other bowls on television
*Potentially a mid-major opponent - Indiana is beating Purdue right now

Personally I know that the best chance for me to go to the ISU bowl game is if it is Heart of Dallas, so part of me is hoping for the Big 12 to just get one in the BCS. We'll very likely be going to Dallas if that happens.

Re: Who ISU needs to root for this weekend

Big East teams are not helping...
Louisville and Rutgers losing will put Kent State and Boise State up two spots.
With Texas losing to an unranked TCU that puts em up to 19 and 20...
Oklahoma beating OkState will put em up to 18 and 19,
a UCLA loss moves em up to 17 and 18
and a Michigan loss moves them up to 16 and 17

Kent State making a BCS game before us would be super depressing and I do not want Boise to sneak in again.

Big 12 will likely be a one BCS team league. Might as well accept it now.

This is true, there are 3 games that all need to go a certain way to make it a two-bid league

    Oklahoma over Oklahoma State
    Kansas State over Texas
    Oklahoma over TCU

If any of those don't happen, Big 12 is a one-bid league and ISU is likely headed to Dallas

Heart of Dallas is the last pick?

Unless baylor gets eligible and then dallas will likely choose them over us and we end up at a non-big12 bowl
