    Cincinnati Thoughts

First off, the announcers were awful to listen too. I couldn't tell which was worse the officiating or the announcers.

Anyway, Korie Lucious is a HUGE liability on offense right now. Way too many turnovers and just awful decision making. His defense is pretty good though.

Tyrus Mcgee is a flat out stud. I know he's a great spark off the bench but he needs to start. Completely different team when he is in.

Make FT's and cut down on turnovers and we win I just don't see the turnovers going down when Lucious is constantly turning it over and always has the ball in his hands. Just my thoughts. Hopefully we beat UNLV tonight!

    Re: Cincinnati Thoughts

Lucious has got to develop some flow and chemistry on O. We will be very frustrating to watch if he doesn't.

Cincy making 19 of 21 free throws won't happen again. Us shootin 53% from the line likely won't happen again.

Turnovers can and likely will happen again.

Rebounding was good - very good.

Everyone not named McGee shoots poorly.

Defensively, this will be a good learning opportunity - How to defend active, physical guards.

    Re: Cincinnati Thoughts

Free throws and turnovers killed us no doubt. Cincy forces turnovers all the time though so I wont sweat that. Lucious and Clyburn need to play team ball first and their stats will come. It drives me nuts when they try too hard to get theirs as we don't get points 90% of the time that way. McGee has obviously been the hot hand all season. They should be working extra hard to give him the shot. Their time will come, just need to be patient.
As far as the announcers go, it was obvious that stroking the Cincy **** was #1 on the list as all pregame, during the game and after was about how amazing Cincy is and how ISU is getting out played etc. I actually called for some slack on Doug Gotlieb but he has Cincy's dong buried in his throat all game. Oh well, on to UNLV, bring it.

If you ask the basketball analysts outside the state of Iowa I think you would be surprised to hear their responses. Iowa was pegged as a preseason top 5 team by one ESPN analyst and is ranked in the vast, vast majority of preseason top 25 polls

Hoiberg needs to tighten the reins on Lucious, because right now he's playing too out of control to be effective. I hope he eventually realizes he isn't the best offensive option, and that his job is to facilitate and take care of the ball.

He has'nt done enough of either yet.

With all that said, if Clyburn didn't have a terrible shooting day - seriously, if he even goes like 4 or 5 out of 15 - we win that game. He was just god awful.

Lucious is a senior, he's been playing basketball for a long time. He is still having a ton of turnovers during his senior year, that isn't going to change. Hopefully he'll be able to get more steals and run outs to make up for that.

That wasn't the problem. Turnovers and missed free throws were the problem. We take care of the ball and make free throws, we win easily.

I was most frustrated with the free throw shooting last night.

Hopefully will and korie are still shaking off lots of rust... And this isn't what we should expect. They both shown some flashes of being ok.

    Re: Cincinnati Thoughts

My biggest frustration had to be watching our point guard and finding out that he does not handle the ball any better than what I saw. How many times did he dribble behind his back or between his legs and then end of losing control of the ball. Pretty tough to be effective when you are always chasing down the ball that you lost control of. Made me hope that Naz develops really quickly.
Clybourne needs to work on his reverse layup. I remember at least 3-4 of them that he missed. And Niang had to be disappointed in his game today. While he continues to play really smart basketball, he struggled getting his shots off today, and the free throw line was his enemy. Hopefully all these will be corrected. Cincy appears to have great interior defense (how tall was the center anyway?) and quick hands on the defensive end. We did not play or shoot well and still had a chance at the end Gotta love the hustle and heart the Cyclones displayed, especially McGee. Looking at the bright side, if they can play this poorly and still be in the game at the end against a good team, they will do fine this season.

    Re: Cincinnati Thoughts

Lucious is a problem and until he starts to take good, open shots in rhythm we aren't going anywhere. Will's shot will fall, he just had an off day. Cincinnati's defense was incredible and we played poorly and still could have won. Hope we can pull one off today.

While on live TV, Ford used a vulgar term to describe a private part of the female anatomy, adding that he was “happily married” and “got more than enough to eat at home.”

    Re: Cincinnati Thoughts

I watched last night with a killer headache due to allergies...what I saw was disgusting. IF IF Cinnci is any good then we have killer potential because we played like dog **** and still took them to the wire.

Missed layups, turn overs, crappy shots, stupid passes, missed FT's...the list was endless.

    McGee was very good.

Our two SR transfers were depressing. And as rough as CL was on the ball handling...WC was bad at pretty much everything. How can you be player of the year in one of those conferences and not be an average player in the Big12? I don't know...but WC showed us it's possible last night.
