Re: After the first real opponent, what do you think?

So people can chalk up Clyburn's terrible game to rust but Lucious just sucks? I'm sure Fred will talk to him. I think its pretty clear Lucious is trying to find his role: distributer or scorer. Once he becomes more comfortable with the guys around him he'll look better. Crucifying a guy 5 games into a season when he hasn't played in over a year is pretty ridiculous.

Five games in they're right about where I expected them to be. It's a team that hasn't played together a lot yet, and it'll take awhile for Clyburn, Lucious, and Niang to blend with the returners from last year's squad. Once they put it together it's a talented enough group to win 20-22 and get to the tournament.

We looked freaking awful and still had a chance with 4 minutes to go.

This early in the season, I'll take that as a positive--------I guess.

Fred is not the perfect example for anything basketball related. He's (still) probably in the top 1% of the best people to ever pick up a basketball and shoot it.

I'd like to remind everyone that last year we had a few early losses that everyone thought was doom and gloom. Then by mid season were all on the bus thinking that team could make the Ncaa tournament. So, lets not get ahead of our selves.

Five games in they will figure it out. It is going to take longer than five games for everyone to gel together and know their roles.

Re: After the first real opponent, what do you think?

Most good teams have a player who can create a shot (himself or others) when the game is on the line. Is Clyburn going to be this player? anyone else?

For me it is interesting to see who makes/takes shots in the last 5 minutes

5:01 58-66 IOWAST Tyrus McGee missed 3-pt. Jump Shot
4:45 59-66 IOWAST Tyrus McGee made 1st of 2 Free Throws
4:45 60-66 IOWAST Tyrus McGee made 2nd of 2 Free Throws

4:15 63-68 IOWAST Korie Lucious made 3-pt. Jump Shot
3:42 63-68 IOWAST Georges Niang missed Jump Shot, Blocked by Justin Jackson
3:33 65-68 IOWAST Melvin Ejim made Driving layup, Assist Tyrus McGee
2:32 65-70 IOWAST Korie Lucious missed 3-pt. Jump Shot
2:04 65-70 IOWAST Georges Niang missed 1st of 2 Free Throws
2:04 65-70 IOWAST Georges Niang missed 2nd of 2 Free Throw
1:52 68-72 IOWAST Will Clyburn made 3-pt. Jump Shot, Assist Georges Niang
1:22 68-72 IOWAST Korie Lucious missed 3-pt. Jump Shot
51.0 70-74 IOWAST Korie Lucious made Driving layup
35.0 70-74 IOWAST Korie Lucious missed Reverse Layup, Blocked by Titus Rubles
35.0 70-74 IOWAST Tyrus McGee missed 3-pt. Jump Shot
29.0 70-75 IOWAST Will Clyburn missed 3-pt. Jump Shot
9.0 70-75 IOWAST Korie Lucious missed 3-pt. Jump Shot
4.0 70-78 IOWAST Korie Lucious missed 3-pt. Jump Shot

This team will get a lot better, but so too will the other teams in the Big12. From what I have seen so far and at this point: KU, OSU, BU, KSU > ISU > UT, TTU Haven't see the other 3 yet. Texas looked terrible in Maui without Kobongo.

Re: After the first real opponent, what do you think?

From the little that I've seen of the rest of the league, and following scores etc, I don't think there are any conference opponents that we shouldn't expect to split with. And of course TT and TCU could/should be sweeps, and OU/Texas certainly are sweep caliber teams as well.

Re: After the first real opponent, what do you think?

It's early in the season, so I'm okay with it as long as they learned from it, but we could have easily won that game. Lucious had a bunch of turnovers that led to a handful of points, and both Ejim and Clyburn missed absolutely point blank shots that they normally make..probably at least 4 or 5 times. Niang also missed 5 FTs when he normally is a fairly decent FT shooter (in the 70%).

The play was really sloppy..that was really disappointing, but they played hard and still almost won. We could have still won. I don't want to criticize the refs, but that one jump ball call at the end when we were down 3 or 4 was BS. Not to count a few over the back calls that weren't made, and Cincy's offensive basket interference dunk that wasn't called.

It just seems like they still had a bunch of Turkey in them from Thanksgiving or something. I doubt we'll play that sloppy many times this year.

Can't say I agree with you on Ejim here...we have a saying at our house when somebody misses a point-blank layup: "He Melvin'ed it." I like Melvin a lot, but he seems to blow bunnies more often than he should.

Agree with everybody here...it's early. We had a chance late despite lots of TOs and poor FT shooting. In Fred I trust.

Melvin in years past has been a little weird, but a bunch of his shots were ones he usually makes. You can say the same about Clyburn. He had a good 3 like that he should easily make and has shown he can in the prior games.

We suck I just emailed JP demanding that Fred be fired, its obvious the guy sucks. There is no chance that we will get any better. Its obvious this transfer thing hasnt worked. Fred has not shown the ability to recruit as well. There wont be any help coming down the pipe ever, you would think with Fred's connections he would at least get a great shooting guard from a state like Wisconsin. Fred will never get to the NCAA dance without whats his name from NC State. We should have never taken a chance with someone that has never coached a game. He cant even call a succesful in-bounds play.

I think we'll be fine. Hope we can pull it out today. Dissapointed with KL on offense and Niang at the FT line was a head scratcher - maybe he was tired.

While on live TV, Ford used a vulgar term to describe a private part of the female anatomy, adding that he was “happily married” and “got more than enough to eat at home.”
