Question: Isn't the kickoff a live ball?

Just watched the WV game on DVR and noticed that one of our kickoffs appeared to stop in the endzone and the refs called it a touchback. Isn't that a live ball?

Similar to a punt, automatic touchback when it breaks the plane.

    I wondered this also.

Has this rule changed? It wasn't always this way.

If it breaks plane and hits the endzone its dead. If it was touched in field of play its live. If its caught in the endzone then they must take a knee for a touchback
