Rough night for the Big 12

    Oklahoma State: 73
    North Texas: 82

    Texas Tech: 54
    Sam Houston: 56

    Iowa State: 56
    Bradley: 65

    UTEP: 76
    Texas A&M: 81

Even though Texas A&M won, they were down by 8 at the half and UTEP kept it close. This seems to be an interesting trend this year with big name schools losing early to the smaller schools. I've just recently started following college basketball so perhaps this isn't a new thing.

Re: Rough night for the Big 12

The Big 12 is the weakest conference ever!!!! AHHHHHH!!!!!!

Not really - these early season games see a lot of upsets. Remember when Santa Clara defeated eventual national champ North Carolina? A lot of these BCS schools are plugging in new players, while these smaller teams have players that have been together for 3 years, and know exactly what to do.

It'll be an interesting season though.

As in BCS conference schools, perhaps i should have stated that instead but i think it is clear what i was getting at.

And just to clarify, i wasnt trying to make some connection into how weak the B12 is going to be this year. Just thought it was interesting all the B12 teams had a rough/down night on the same night against smaller schools.

What is up with the mediocre play so far this year around the country? Crazy.

May have something to do with the season starting a week earlier? Or as someone else stated, the lower division/conference teams generally return more players, (less academic issues, NBA defections, etc.) and therefore play better earlier.

I really don't know, though. Maybe it's just that teams got confidence seeing App. St. beat Mich.!!!

This year's football upset bug seems to have carried over to basketball, but it's still early.

How is Bradley beating Iowa State an upset????? They were supposed to and they did. They got the talent, they have the returning strarters from last year and we don't.

Basketball is not the same as football. Basketball doesn't go by how big the school is or how many scholarship the school can give you - it all depends on how good of a team you have even in a smaller school like Bradley.

Big 12 is going to be very poor this year (KU, KSU excluded)

Did I ever say that Bradley beating us was an upset? I was referring to earlier posts--22's being one of them--that said mediocre play was taking place around the country. (See Ohio State losing in an exhibition game and Kentucky losing to Gardner Webb, among others.)

I guess I didn't read the earlier post by 22 that you referred to.

Kentucky will lose some more games, and Ohio State will lose a few more. I think this year will be the one where a school from a smaller conference takes the NCAA championship.

It's OK. I guess I should have quoted 22's post in mine. I'd give you some positive rep for responding, but I'm already out for the day.

I think a lot of us would agree that Kentucky and Ohio State will probably lose a few more games, especially now that they've lost to teams that they "should" have beaten. That's the obvious benefit of hindsight. But most people would have agreed before they lost those games that it would be a surprise to lose them. Thus, upsets.

I didn't mean to imply that the upset trend will continue, but it wouldn't surprise me much if it did, given what's happened with the increase in parity in recent years.

Re: Rough night for the Big 12

The upsets will stop happening once everyone and ourselves work out the BUGS that have been hurting us in the few games we've played. Also, seeing so many new guys get into the system for us is a big deal, which I'm sure is the case for everyone else losing around the nation to smaller schools.

Anyone see McDermott slap the ref on the butt at the end of the game? Laughed out loud on that one.
