how does texas get to dodge playing in cold climate stadiiums late in the season?

why are they offered that luxury? people always talk about this but is it actually true that they somehow get to avoid playing in cold weather (north teams in november)? if true how has no one raised a stink about it? doesn't seem fair (not that anything in sports really is). north teams have to travel south and get a heat shock after being acclimated to winter temps, why does texas not have to come up north and get a cold shock?

or is this all just cyclone conspiracy?

They play at Kansas State December 1st. Can't get any later than that.

I have no idea if it is written anywhere, or even agreed upon, but for quite a time the only team that had come to Ames in November was Oklahoma State in 2009 and 2011.

But I'm going to think about it more. In the old Big12, ISU always finished the year earlier than most teams (before Thanksgiving). That's a potential South to North game gone.

Next I'm thinking there are a lot of regional match ups which meant few inter-division games. Nebraska and Colorado played last week, same for Mizzou and KU. OU and OSU, UT and A&M, Baylor & Tech played late in year. ISU almost always played KU or Mizzou towards the end of the year too.

So while it does seem a little fishy that there were so few statistically, it does make sense in general that there would be less than expected given scheduling of inter-division games late in the year. And you could easily argue the conference scheduled inter-division games late in the year to build excitement, not to protect South teams from the cold weather.

Going down to Texas and playing in 80 degree heat when you're used to 60 degree fall days is probably tougher on our team than you'd think.

It's a gentlemen's agreement, like in the SEC, where they don't offer to pay players more than the team from their home state. We recruit Texas kids, so we have to go down there early. When they start recruiting Iowa kids, they have to come up here late.

Nowadays with Nebby, Co and Misery gone they don't have so many chances. But, yeah, all through the history of the BXII they've been suspiciously absent late in the season in any northern climes. Not sure how they got away with it either. Probably $ince they run the conference and all.

They didn't in the past because they tried to schedule division games at the end of the year if they could help it.

And it's a conspiracy theory. Thank God that cold November weather really helped us beat Oklahoma.

Miami played Wisconsin in the Champs Sports Bowl in 2009, it was in the low 60's and they had heaters on the sidelines for the team... all the Wisconsin guys were sleeveless lol

QFT. You can't get any later in the year. Only Ames and Morgantown are further north and if Texas is going to play a Texas school on Thanksgiving and ISU and WVU is going to be an end of the year rivalry thing, there aren't many options. And ISU got OU in Ames in Nov. And OU had to play at WVU last Saturday. If anyone had a complaint for unfariness of road games this year, it should be OU.

Historically, most of the Nov games have been divisional games because there's more drama there and that meant games were more regional. I do think Texas threw it's weight around to avoid Nov games up north up there but with conference realignment stuff, I think they've seen they can't keep pushing people around and expect them to stand around and take it.

The main reason since the formation of the Big 12 was that they tried to schedule inter-division games at the end of the year.

With the round robin that seems to be changing a bit. UT is playing at KSU this fall, which is a step forward.

Re: how does texas get to dodge playing in cold climate stadiiums late in the season?

I'd say this is a myth.

    2011 @ Mizzou, Nov. 12
    2010 @ K-State, Nov. 7
    2008 @ KU, Nov. 15
    2006 @ K-State, Nov. 11
    2004 @ KU, Nov. 13

Given that the UT/A&M game was always typically at the end of the season along with the fact that the Big 12 always had an unbalanced schedule between divisions I don't think it looks like there is any grand conspiracy to keep UT out of the North in November.
