    McKay/Thomas Peaking?

Despite last night's loss, when looking at the big picture, the recent improvement of McKay and Thomas is exciting. Hopefully, they can keep improving as well as perform consistently going forward.

In the last 4 games, McKay's average/game is: 13.25 pts, 9.75 rb, 4 bk, and 1.25 steals. Not sure if anyone else in the conference has played as well over the same span. If he keeps improving at this rate, I will again state that losing him to the NBA after this season is a possibility.

In the last 2 games, Matt is averaging 15 pts on 10/15 shooting. He's shooting with the most confidence I've seen from him yet, including last year. Hopefully, he keeps it up.

I think the only person not improving recently or playing on a consistent basis is Nader, although we know he can explode for a monster game periodically. He's the last piece of the puzzle for the team to play at an optimal level. I like that he has a scorer's mentality and a short memory of previously missed shots. He just needs to become more selective as BDJ has.

    Your thoughts?

First off, losing him to the NBA has as a good of a chance as you winning the Kentucky Derby on a Unicorn.

W that being said...Yes, and just in time for Tourney time and also keep in mind this has happened during a tougher part of the sched.

I love McKay. No, love is not a strong enough word. And I'm happy to see Thomas putting it together. I hope he continues to build on it. That is all.

Georges and Monte make this team go, but McKay has quickly inserted himself into the conversation as one of our best players.

So happy for Matt. He is looking extremely confident, and with his well rounded game- good rebounding, solid ball handling and passing, and the scoring instinct that is finally starting to show, his emergence could be key for a post season run. Loving it!

If Matt can become an "ok" defender, we'll be very good. Yesterday he got 3 after 3 nailed on him by Medford.

    Re: McKay/Thomas Peaking?

I think McKay has room to grow still, definitely has the tools to score with is back to the basket.

Thomas looked like a different guy last night, he was confident shooting and passing. Pretty awesome to see.

Our problem is our back court is below average defenders and are forced to help each other. Matt/Naz/Monte/Hogue/etc. are all terrible on ball defenders as soon as a screen comes. We misplay it and then the off-ball guard is forced to help and gets burned because the original on-ball defender is lost. One pass away is an open 3.

    Re: McKay/Thomas Peaking?

Nader has to stop shooting threes. He is a great finisher around the rim - possibly our best at driving in for lay-ins (Georges usually doesn't go to the rim, he stops short with a runner or hook). He needs to start driving more and shooting less. There is a reason why teams are just leaving him wide open at the 3 point line.

    Re: McKay/Thomas Peaking?

McKay is a straight-up beast! AND, he can still improve. His free throws are outstanding and is a big key for our recent wins (and not losing by more last night). Like everyone, I couldn't be more happy to see Thomas play well for 2 games in a row! I feel like this could be the turning point for him, but my concern is that the loss may have deflated his confidence a little. He'd be riding really high had we won. Very excited for the next game. Naz, George, Nader, Hogue- please don't disappear again for the rest of the year. **** is getting real now!

A few of those was because he had to help on Cherry when he got by Naz

    Re: McKay/Thomas Peaking?

None of our guards are good defenders. Not just Matt Thomas. Naz and Morris leave a lot to be desired. BDJ has some talent and length, so he's solid, but the rest just aren't great on that half of the court.

    Re: McKay/Thomas Peaking?

I don't know if I would call it peaking but they are definitely improving which is good to see.

I would argue that the team as a whole is improving as well and are in prime position to peak around tourney time.

I'm excited about McKay's potential and play, so far. But I think his ceiling is much higher than we've seen. I'm hoping he gets into the weight room over the off-season and adds some strength to his upper body. He has a hard time finishing contested rebounds and layups. I'd like to see him power through some of the hacking and hits thrown his way when he has the ball, trying to go up to the basket. He seems a little weak in that area, to me. But I loved some of his alley-oops last night. Hoping to see lots of that kind of "showtime" in the post-season tournaments - sans the few lobs that were badly executed.
