    A-Rod talking with Yanks

ESPN - Never say never: A-Rod, Yankees talking deal - MLB

    Surprise surprise!

Basically he knows the Yankees in the end will probably pay the most. The whole "if he opts out we won't negotiate" was just a ploy for the Yanks to scare him into taking an extension so that the Rangers were still forking up a big part of his current deal. Now the Yanks will have to pay the entire bill and there are maybe a handful of other teams that might even consider signing him for the money he's seeking. I find it funny how he's leaving Boras out of this right now though.

    Re: A-Rod talking with Yanks

I have been a baseball fan first all my life (White Sox fan for all 37 years...many were painful ones)...and I am getting to the point where I don't really know if I like it anymore! All Yankees/Red Sox all the time! It is sickening! How must Royal fans feel (any of you out there?)? There are more teams than the Yankees and the Red Sox! MLB owners need to reform themselves to reflect the NFL! That would make MLB so much better than it is now!

    Re: A-Rod talking with Yanks

I don't know that a salary cap is what MLB needs but some form of competitive balance and revenue sharing is greatly needed. The luxury tax hasn't stopped Boston and NY from spending and hasn't helped teams like KC and Tampa Bay get any better. I don't know the solution but it makes for more excitement when their are teams other than the Red Sox and Yankees winning.

A-Rod is a great player, but there is NO WAY one guy is worth the kind of money that he is after. Salaries like his are KILLING the game!

We don't need him anyway. We need to sign Fukudome right now.

    Re: A-Rod talking with Yanks

I think the biggest thing is that he is excluding his agent, Scott BorA$$ from the talks with the Yankees (for now).

    Re: A-Rod talking with Yanks

This is all a setup for the biggest contract possible...he is going to have the Yankees bidding against themselves! 26 or so of the 30 teams couldn't even come close to meeting his expectations financially. So...how does he get the remaining teams to increase their offers? By going back to the Yankees...and if no one is willing to match that offer...he goes back to NY and claims his agent was the bad guy! And Boras will be happy to be the bad guy and take his huge cut!

I was pretty ****** when he opted out (i'm a Yankees fan.) But if he takes $20 million dollars less (what the rangers were helping pay his old contract) I guess I would like him back.

Yeah, A-Rod is just buttering up the Yanks up and get a decent deal agreed on then bring Boras in to get them to bend over even more to seal the deal. If he really wanted to put his money where his mouth is that all he cares about is winning he'd sign for a modest 15-20 mil a year deal but I bet you he signs for at least and probably more than he was getting under he last rediculous deal.

This is what I don't get. These athletes claim they want to win but they cripple their teams with terrible contracts. How about taking a modest deal (when are talking a few less mil a year when you are making 10+ mil as it is are you really going to feel the crunch?) so your team can afford to put other good players around you?

    Re: A-Rod talking with Yanks

Red Sox have 2 World Series wins in the last 90 years. The Marlins have 2 in the last 12 years. How is it all Red Sox all the time. As a Red Sox fan and a loyal one for the last 27 years it makes me sick to here people complain because the Red Sox win 2 times since I was 6 years old. Cry me a river man.

I think they're referring to the Yankees-Red Sox Network, errr, I mean ESPN.

I am not saying that because of wins or World Series titles...I am saying this because of the media coverage! Come on...admit it...ESPN in the summer might as well call the first 15 minutes of Sports Center the "NYY-BOS" segment...that is unless Barry Bonds was nearing a milestone...then it was the "how can we bash Barry Bonds but celebrate his achievements" segment!

This is my favorite part of this situation. Boras is ruining baseball with his ridiculous contract demands, and these kinds of moves that undermine him (this and the Andruw Jones thing a few years back) just make me happy.

A-Rod's a Yankee! Being reported on WAFN New York. 10 years $275-$280 range. Hopefully he fired Boras.
