Trying to temper my enthusiasm as well. If he does a similar deed vs. those mountain-guys on Friday, then I think we can say the report was prophecy.

23-27 250 yds 5 TD 0 TO is still an outstanding stat line

This. Barnett and Jantz didn't have that against western Illinois for crying out loud. My expectations are tempered but I want to see him on the field against WVU.

He's listed on the official ISU roster at 6'-2"; is that accurate?

Re: ESPN's 2010 scouting report on Richardson

I have been mentioning him all season as has others on here. Look at his mechanics on throwing the ball versus Jantz and Barnett and its not even close he is by far the most accurate passer we have had for awhile. Looks off defenders and puts the ball where the receivers can make a play. It is one game and I know that and hope he continues this into next week and if he might struggle hope some on here will not want him burned at the stake.

Re: ESPN's 2010 scouting report on Richardson

Let me just clarify, I think he did outstanding and no doubt should start Friday. It just seems like so many here are just bursting at the seams to annoint him the greatest quarterback ISU has ever seen. He played one game against a bad team. I think he's good and could end up great with his tools, but let's settle ourselves down a little bit here.

I can't put my finger on it or describe it accurately enough but Sam just throws just a pretty ball and that "pops" into the receivers hands like a baseball does in the catchers mitt.

While on live TV, Ford used a vulgar term to describe a private part of the female anatomy, adding that he was “happily married” and “got more than enough to eat at home.”

this happened with jantz early in the season last year and then JB after the tech game. those two are very capable of having great games but are terribly inconsistent. hopefully the sunshine kid can be consistently good.

Re: ESPN's 2010 scouting report on Richardson

The reason that ESPN had such an accurate write-up on Sam Richardson was that they got to see him "up close and personal". In the summer of 2010, Winter Park's 7on7 team was invited to ESPN's Florida Premier 7's tournament, at Orlando. Winter Park swept through the competition and won. That ended Winter Park's 7on7 play with a record of 44-1.

I think it's the dying of thirst syndrome. If you are dying of thirst that next drink of water could be brown as coffee and have bugs floating in it, it'll be the best drink of water you ever had.

We have been thirsty for any semblance of a QB that anybody showing any signs of accuracy and decision making will look like Peyton Manning.

Re: ESPN's 2010 scouting report on Richardson

The thing that impressed me the most was his pocket presence. He didn't appear to get flustered at all and was patient. The line played pretty well last night too but you could still see a difference with him in there. Watching Klein a few weeks ago you could notice a difference in someone who felt comfortable in the pocket and our qb.

Re: ESPN's 2010 scouting report on Richardson

I'm trying REALLY hard to temper my excitement about SR, but everytime I think back to last night's game, my excitement about him just grows and grows.

Here are just a few things I saw last night out of him that makes me believe he's the real deal...

    - That TD to Brun was just a thing of beauty. Nobody was open initially at all, but SR had the presence of mind to be patient and even throw in a pump fake until Brun cleared for the easy TD.

    - The TD to Horne was another one where Horne must have been at least his 3rd option on the play, but yet he still saw him breaking open across the grain on the other side of the field. That takes great vision.

    - The one scramble he had where he put a serious spin move on the defenders. Yes, it didn't end up getting him any extra yds because KU had another defender right there to take him down, but it just shows his desire to make a play. Kinda tells me that the "swagger" part of the ESPN analysis is probably pretty accurate.

    - The presence of mind on the QB sneek, after he bobbled the snap, to take it to the outside when nothing was there over center. This is just football instincts folks. Just trying to make a play and improvise on the go. Too many QB's are like robots and only do exactly what the play calls for no matter what.

    - Also, I don't remember SR last night ever throwing a 5 yd pass on a 3rd and 7 for example. He always seemed to throw past the 1st down sticks when needed. He didn't always complete them, but at least if they were completed they were first downs. Nothing irritates me more than throwing a 4 yd pass on 3rd and 6.

    - And finally, his demeanor both during and after the game. During the game, he got excited when he made good plays. He congratulated teammates after scoring drives. Barnett also does this very well too IMO, but Steele always looks like he could care less and he never gets into it with his teammates at all.

And after the game in his interview on TV, he was calm and cool as a cat. He wasn't all excited and celebratory, but was more matter of fact and confident. He said he knew it was his shot and he was going to take full advantage of it. That showed a lot of confidence and almost a cockiness about it that I LOVE! He wasn't going out there with the attitude of "ok, now just don't go out there and screw up".... but instead it was more of an attitude of "go out there and dominate and win this game".

I just hate to get too excited about him yet, because as an ISU fan, it always seems to let you down at some point. I just hope he comes out and has a good game Friday against WV. Even if we don't win, I hope he has a good solid game that he can keep building from. I just saw way too many good things last night to not get excited about what his future at ISU could be though.

Re: ESPN's 2010 scouting report on Richardson

S.R. reminded me of J. Walsh for Okst. Good pocket presence and throws a good ball, J.W. may be a better runner. Not the most dynamic player on the field but just a solid, solid, solid player. I remember watching ISU play them and thinking, "wish we had their back-up as our starter." Also both players in the same recruiting class (both RFr) and as most of us have heard the coaching staff was recruiting Walsh hard.
