Re: Royce White prepared to leave NBA

I totally get where Royce is coming from though. I mean this one time I had 2 tests in a day and I was having some big anxiety that day. I feel you Royce, I feel you.

Re: Royce White prepared to leave NBA

    What follows is pure speculation.

Maybe he can't play for Kelvin Sampson, who has widely been regarded for some time in basketball circles as a first rate *** hole. Might explain why everything was fine until assessments/assignments came at the end of summer league.

Whoever it was, RW doesn't trust them. When he began to have issues, they told him he was "a commodity" which probably isn't useful to someone dealing with what he does. Doesn't make it untrue, but in RW's head it would be a pretty big problem considering the Rockets' previously pledged support. So the stalemate begins.

    And Royce ultimately loses.

There has to be treatment or drugs that can deal with this. It just seems Royce is not interested.

If he quits, he will just validate every person that said this would not work, and he will do so much more damage to his cause than whatever good he has done. No way in hell will another NBA team (or any professional team) draft a player with possible mental or anxiety issues for a long, long time.
I think it's looking a little more likely that Royce wasn't as open to returning as some here tend to believe. I had heard he really had no desire to come back.

I'm not sure Fred had much of a chance of talking him into another year, and despite everyone's best efforts to prepare him, it wasn't enough.

Maybe Fred say this coming or saw the crazy effort it took to keep him in line and didn't try very hard at all to talk him into another year at ISU. I doubt that is the case, but something to wonder about.

Possible. Along those lines, think about this. And this following could be wrong, just a theory that I'm throwing out there....

But maybe, whatever ISU did to keep him in check was too much. Maybe it truly wasn't confronting and managing his illness.

Maybe things trended a little to much toward babysitting/placating/giving Royce whatever he wanted/needed, above and beyond what any other organization and any other situation could possibly be expected of in "the real world."

Again, just a theory, don't have any inside information on this, but it is something I think could be considered. But in the interest of full disclosure, I have absolutely zero inside information on how ISU helped him manage the illness.

Yeah, I agree. He's an outlier in this whole thing anyway. People in the NBA already know Hoiberg and he has an excellent reputation.

IMO, if Fred was babysitting White, he would have let teams know probably. ALthough, we have no idea what all he told them.

Agreed. Sadly, this hurts players in the future from being "transparent" about their anxiety disorders in the future. They won't feel confident being so open about it.

"So you said you've got anxiety issues..like that Royce White guy?"

"What? No. Did I say anxiety? I meant allergies. I have bad allergies."

Re: Royce White prepared to leave NBA

I'm a RW fan and this is tough to watch unfold.

Royce badly needs someone he trusts to talk sense to him before he blows it for good. Might be too late already.

And if he wants to advocate for his cause, what better way than to set an example as a professional athlete with anxiety disorder performing at a high level despite his condition?

I dont think a miserably failed NBA career is what the doctor ordered for his mental health, in fact I think its potentially devastating.

What a drama queen. I understand that he has some mental issues and needs help, but at this point, it looks more like a "Poor me" situation. From the outside it looks like the Rockets are genuinely trying to help and he is trying to make headlines.

    most Iowa State thing ever.

The one constant through all the years, Ray, has been baseball. America has rolled by like an army of steamrollers. It has been erased like a blackboard, rebuilt and erased again. But baseball has marked the time. This field, this game: it's a part of our past, Ray. It reminds of us of all that once was good and it could be again. Oh... people will come Ray. People will most definitely come.

He does make it sound like McHale is trying to cure him with a baseball bat with all the "standing up for myself" stuff.
