    do you drive drunk/buzzed?

the post below about dude with 4 owi's go made me wondering the frequency of this. no need to say directly if you do (even though your identity is hidden as a screen name).

i know of almost no one who will actually line up a d.d. or call a friend (no cabs where i live, 7mi to nearest bar).

a guy who works around here is rumored to have had 5 owi's. can't verify the concreteness of the rumor, but i think he has had to do a fair amount of jail time for the most recent one. odd thing is he lives in a small city where you could call a cab.

Absolutely not. If I question if I've had too much to drink, it's time to walk or find a ride home.

    Re: do you drive drunk/buzzed?

I used to drive drunk/buzzed... but never if I could barely walk straight. But after my OWI where I felt like I was completely normal I haven't drove after drinking since.

    Re: do you drive drunk/buzzed?

I've driven when falling asleep before, probably more dangerous. Never have considered driving after drinking as a plausible solution.

    Re: do you drive drunk/buzzed?

odd thing i learned while taking some alcohol classes back in undergrad. the cops said buzzed drivers tend to be way worse than completely wasted drivers. reason: buzzed drivers refuse to think they are a legitimate danger, but when you are completely wasted you have a higher tendency to know you are a risk. completely wasted drivers (they said) often get pulled over for being too slow and deliberate. driving way below speed limit, always signaling, etc.

**** no, absolutely not. I'd rather sleep well at night than risk hurting anyone.

I don't drink. That eliminates this for me.

    Re: do you drive drunk/buzzed?

In my younger days there would be times where I made less than stellar decisions when it came to this. However, once you get married, have kids, etc...there is just WAY too much on the line.

The Toyota of Des Moines guy has an addiction problem for sure and unfortunately that addiction is completely overruling judgement. He should not be allowed to drive...period.

I agree Heilsqauvador...driving while tired is just as bad as is TEXTING WHILE DRIVING. Everytime I pull up to a stoplight it seems that 2 of every 3 drivers around me are texting...drives me nuts.

This seems like an odd question to ask people.

i stop and get sunflower seeds. chewing something that takes some technique is just enough to keep your brain engaged (at least for a small brain like mine). also books on tape work wonders.

i don't suppose they would help with drunk driving though.
