    Re: Ejim

I didn't think Melvin played poorly. In fact, at one point during the game I was wondering how we can get both Niang and Melvin on the floor at the some time more often. They both rebound so well and do so many little things to help the team.

    Re: Ejim

When Ejim is on the court, good things happen more often than when he is sitting. Unless he has a complete breakdown mentally and physically, I expect him to start all season long.

I like the flex stuff they run with Niang at the top of the key and the big 3 (Clyburn/Ejim) making the cut. A simple concept, but it works well with our personnel, especially with Percy and Niang in there. I think it's a good way to get Clyburn more action.

I bet we see that a ton next year. Gibson making the screen, Ejim cutting, Niang with ball at the top, and Thomas spacing the floor.

He's definitely a leader and I think in the past he has earned the "quiet" reputation with guys like Allen, Scotty, and Jake ahead of him. On Friday night, though, he was anything but quiet. While he was on the bench he was easily the most vocal guy out there (coaches included), standing and shouting out commands from the bench. At one point everyone in Hilton could have heard him yelling at the guys on the floor to get back on defense. It looks to me like he is absolutely the leader of this team and I, for one, think that is a very good thing.

McGee was also doing his part from the bench, though he's always been a pretty vocal guy.

    Re: Ejim

Ejim will start all year IMO. His minutes might go down this year due to Niang being so good, but that is a good thing. He will be more fresh when he is in there.

After the first exhibition game, Fred specifically mentioned Ejim after the game and how the game completely turned for us midway through the game when Melvin grabbed something like 8 or 9 rebounds in a row.

That is why he's still VERY valuable for us. He rebounds, which we desperately need on this team. Didn't he lead the Big 12 in rebounds or something last year?

Not worried about Ejim, if you can rebound like he can you will not get lost in the fray.

I believe he is the leading RETURNING rebounder from last year. T-Rob averaged almost 12 per game last year.

    Re: Ejim

Melvin just had an off-night, couldn't even make his free throws and usually is pretty good at the line. Just didn't have his usual energy/focus, he looked like his usual self in the exhibition though so I wouldn't be worried.

Love Ejim and all the little things he does. Not flashy dunker or anything but successful teams NEED guys like him. Thankful to have him playing 4 years for us.

Completely agree with this. The flex style of offense is very simple, but with Niang's apparent passing ability from the top of the key (and a 3 point shot that his defender will have to respect), this would be perfect with our line-up.
