So, is this still a separate game from the Sugar Bowl, or has the Sugar Bowl officially become a Big 12/SEC tie-in game?

So how does this work with the existing bowl picks?

    Playoff
    Champions
    Cotton
    etc?

Does one of the existing tie ins go away?

So the question is, is how does this affect any other bowls the big 12 is tied with. Fiesta, Cotton, all the way down.

Cool that makes sense. It will be interesting to see how the bowl landscape continues to evolve in a post-BCS world. The Rose Bowl and Sugar Bowl are basically set, now it will be interesting to see how the other big games react (Orange, Fiesta, Cotton)

I love this. Getting to see #1 big 12 team against the #2 SEC team(since they seem to basically get an automatic bid to the NC game) will bring some exciting match ups.

Re: Report: New Orleans/Sugar bowl to host Champions Bowl

Also, wasn't the "Champions Bowl" pegged as part of the rotating 6 bowls associated with the playoff? How does it becoming the new Sugar Bowl affect that?

Re: Report: New Orleans/Sugar bowl to host Champions Bowl

So am I correct on my math here?
$20 million for Tier 1/2. We keep Tier 3 and sell them to whoever. Then the Big 12 gets half so $40 million which mean Iowa State gets an additional $4 million from this game putting us up to $24 million/year while keeping Tier 3?

I would imagine the Sugar will just swap with the Fiesta, and the Fiesta will no longer have any conference-tie ins. Cotton will still be 2nd.

Plus another probably $3-$4 Million per school from all the other bowl games. Also, I doubt that's $80 million per year.

Re: Report: New Orleans/Sugar bowl to host Champions Bowl

The Fiesta Bowl is really getting screwed in this whole deal.
-You have to figure the playoff is likely to take the SEC #1, Big 12#1, Pac-12 #1, Big Ten #1/ACC #1/Notre Dame.
-Rose Bowl will take Pac-12 #2 and Big Ten #1/#2.
-Sugar Bowl will take Big 12 #2 and SEC #2.
-Orange Bowl will take ACC #1/Notre Dame, maybe even the ACC #2 in a weird year where Notre Dame is awful and the ACC is up.
-The Big 12 #3 is probably going to the Cotton Bowl.
-I would assume playing the ACC team or Notre Dame is more attractive to the #2 Big Ten Team or #3 SEC team.

So who is left for the Fiesta Bowl now? That game's prestige is really going to suffer now.

Looks like it is $80 million per year:

"ESPN will pay $80 million a year for the Sugar Bowl, sources said. That's the same amount ESPN will pay annually for the Rose Bowl. The Orange Bowl is expected to be worth $55 million, sources said."

That happens when you have internal scandals IMO.
