    After watching the replay

The defensive line continues to be an area of concern. They are quite stout against the run, but they simply do not get any kind of a pass rush. Hopefully Kellman and Black come in next year and add some athleticism to the line.

    Re: After watching the replay

I'm actually surprised we've been this good against the run. We are very undersized on the line except for big Tuba but he's not a very athletic guy either. We could use an upgrade in size and speed on the line that is for sure. We seem to get just enough push to clog the running lanes but the size disadvantage hurts in the pass rush. Most of these guys are going up against guys that are 50-75 pounds more on the other side.

    Re: After watching the replay

I dunno about Tuba not being athletic. He's really impressed me this year. Has made a number of tackles while flowing down the line. When you look at him, you'd never imagine he'd make those kinds of plays. Yet he's doing so relatively consistently.

He's also ran down a QB or two. We're definitely going to miss him.

Our pass rush is slowly getting better. At least we're getting a rush at key times - notably against K-State and CU. Parker and Taylor had some pressures the past two weekends that were very critical to us winning those games.

It's not consistent by any means, but getting better. I've been impressed at how well Taylor has rebounded from that knee injury.

I think 'ole Tuba moves EXTREMELY well for his size.

    Re: After watching the replay

Tuba has trouble getting mush push, he simply doesn't move. Which makes him good against the run, but he doesn't do much against the pass. He does move down the line well against the run, but he for some reason just doesn't get off blocks in passing situations

    Re: After watching the replay

Could that be because he's getting double-teamed? I mean, a guy his size, that is in his job description - make enough fuss to get double-teamed, allowing the real pass-rushers to get one-on-one match-ups.

I don't see Tuba as a guy that we should be seeing a lot of QB pressures from. That should come from our ends and other DT.

And like I said, I've seen Tuba in there terrorizing QBs more than anyone is giving him credit for.

    Re: After watching the replay

Our defense is going to get a big test on Saturday. We have to have a pass rush to have any chance. The problem is, we can't get that w/ our front 4 alone. If we have to blitz LB's and DB's consistently, then KU will screen pass and dink and dunk us down the field. If we try to drop 7 or 8 they have proven that they can run very well. Bottom line, Bolt will have to earn his keep this week.

22 already stole my thunder somewhat, but I have seen Tuba run down some QBs and RBs in the backfield. He isnt' meant to really be a pass rusher but I think his mobility combined with his size makes him a possible player on Sunday. Will he get drafted? Probably not, but that combination will get him some looks.

I agree, Tuba isn't really supposed to be where the pass rush comes from, I was just adding to the original post bringing him up. He really does what he is supposed to as a NG, although I do think he takes a play off every now and then.

I think I've seen Tuba come out of the game on alot of passing situations (3rd and longs)

I think you and I watch a different football game, because I've yet to see that. He's got a motor that just doesn't quit and I rarely think "Tuba should have made that play".

Agree to disagree then. Again, I really was not talking about Tuba originally anyway, he does his job of plugging the middle very well. The other three positions are where the pass rush should be coming from, and it's not happening consistently.

Didn't you see Tuba bat down that big 3rd down pass while he was back in coverage! I would say he is pretty athletic and can move if they are going to drop him in coverage, even if it is only an 8 yard zone read.

I was just going to post that, it happened right in front of me.

    Re: After watching the replay

Damn, I forgot all about that play. We were shocked in the stands to see him drop back. Joked that if he had caught it, we could've seen a redo of the Curvey pick-for-TD from '05.

Great play call, CU never saw it coming. Neither did we, as I've yet to see him drop back into a short zone.
