Post 1980's. Who was Iowa State's worst coach, and who was/is our best?

Thought I would start this thread and get the opinions of our fanatics... I honestly believe that Coach Hoiberg could go down as our best coach in this time frame, if not in Iowa State history. Though many could make a strong argument for Larry Eustachey.

Worst coach, I am torn between Greg McDermott and Wayne Morgan. I'm leaning more to Greg McDermott.

I think Hoiberg will pass Eustachey in the long run as the best. But Eustachey still wins for now.

This is the correct answer if we are talking about pure coaching.

Re: Post 1980's. Who was Iowa State's worst coach, and who was/is our best?

I would have to go with Floyd as being the best. The guy just won. As far as the worst, I could go with McDermott or Morgan. Morgan at least won though. McDermott could recruit well, but then couldn't coach anyone, and couldn't hang on to anyone. The guy didn't even have one winning season here, despite having some decent players.

    Floyd - Hoiberg = wash

Wayne Morgan wins in a landslide for worst coach with no scruples.

I think its pretty hard to argue against Mcdermott being the worst.

McMutt is the worst by far.

Morgan can't be worse than Mac. Morgan actually beat KU in KU probably should of done it more than once (the ref screwed us game) and got us to ncaa tourney.

Morgan didn't coach...McDermott couldn't relate to players, but at least he attempted to coach.

That is why we are saying Morgan is the worst "coach".

Great feedback! Now, with Larry Eustachey. Put aside the drinking situation in Columbia, MO, his alcoholism, etc. Would that change most fanatics opinion and rate Eustachey close to the top? Surprising not anyone is putting Orr in the best catagory..

Loved Larry problems aside the guy could coach. Loved during the back to back years especially the first one with Tinsley and Fizer and company. Post game interviews were must listen radio. We could win by 20 and he still be ****** off.

Even though Orr coached until 1994, it seems like we're talking post-Orr.
