    Looking for a kicker?

There is an article in the RAG today about searching for a kicker. I have heard/read that a lot of NFL kickers are also good golfers (the same mindset?). We need a high school kid who is a great golfer, soccer player, and can put a ball in the air a long way. Having two on scholarship, a kickoff specialist and a 35 yard and in, fg kicker would not be a waste of a scholarship. IMO

    Re: Looking for a kicker?

Not having those has hurt us all year long, the worst part is, I can't really remember a good kicker since 1999-2000 really, and maybe it was longer ago. It just seems all the kicker recruits for a while have never panned out.

    Re: Looking for a kicker?

I remember a lot of fans being mad at Yelk because he was so average at making FGs. As poor as he was in accuracy, he still had a huge leg. This year the Clones had a bunch of week legs and suffered from inaccuracy.

Wouldn't it be nice if ISU could find a strong kicker with some accuracy? How many kickers do other teams use? How many scholarships do they have committed to kickers? I know it is nt the case of Mac not caring about the kicking game, or giving out scholarships. It really looks like ISU has had a lot of bad luck in this area, and maybe a couple others.

yelk had the leg for deep kicks and punts. Remember Adam Beneke. That guy never missed a thing. He just couldnt kick very far

Kickers are good golfers because in the off-season when the real football players are working out, the kickers are playing golf.

Bring in a couple of kids I'd say we're looking at needing new pk and punter as the punting this year has been underwhelming

Beneke is the best kicker I can remember, by far.

    Re: Looking for a kicker?

i like the thought of recruiting ankenys kicking coach. it was mentioned on here before, dont remember what thread or by who. ankeny puts out some good kickers, heck with recruiting a HS kid, recruit their coach and have him 1) bring their kicker with him and 2) teach our guys what he has taught them at ankeny

    Re: Looking for a kicker?

if I remember right, the kicking coach at Ankeny hates the cyclones and is a huge hawkeye fan. Not sure we really want him
