    Re: Blum: The Final Ascent

caught the link from the facebook post... good read

agree with the feeling that we have a legit shot at this. it's strange not going into majority of conference games feeling (almost knowing) that we have 0 chance at pulling off a win.

hope we can get it done... for Jake

    Re: Blum: The Final Ascent

Good read. It is nice thinking we have a shot at any team this year on our schedule. I guess I've been a Cyclone fan too long and I'm hoping that it doesn't turn into a Texas 2011 game. I know, I know, Debbie Downer and I don't blame anyone for ******** on me. I guess I'm just waiting to be proven wrong by ISU, that every time I really start to believe we have a shot to win a big game, it ends up a disaster. I know Rhoads is changing that, I really believe he is, but as I said, to go along with wins against OSU, Texas and Nebraska, there is Utah, Missouri and Texas losses.

As I've said a lot of times on here. It's not even winning that is a big deal to me, just stop the blow-outs. Close losses are frustrating, but for fans, there is a moral victory that can be had by at least being in the game.

Ugh, sorry for my rant, it was probably uncalled for after such a good article. You've definitely given me a bit more hope.

Not quite the hanky wetter as last week, but well done sir. If I was in Ames Saturday I would bring you a nice cool Natty lite for you efforts.

“They're very, very hard to guard,” Notre Dame head coach Mike Brey said. “They're really good. And with Niang in the middle kind of wheeling and all those guys spreading you out, they're kind of a nightmare matchup. And they're men. They're really men.”

    Re: Blum: The Final Ascent

I found myself doing a double-take with this sentence:

The Cyclones have never defeated Oklahoma at Jack Trice Stadium.

Even if we’re all aware of that, it still boggles the mind.

    Re: Blum: The Final Ascent

I've been waiting for the weekly Blum article. At first I was looking forward to a 2nd straight “trip down memory lane” only this week a tribute to a Living Legend who’s ISU career ended but his legacy and pro career were just beginning to grow.

However, as the week went on and the tributes piled up I somehow expected something similar to what you wrote here Blum. A piece more about how this team that will take the field this weekend, this coach and this staff still have a job to do even if they have to do it without one of the greatest player representatives that this program has ever known. The great part is that we still have that coach who has captivated CyclONEnation and has convinced every single player to “give it up” for the sake of this team.

I think Wally said it with all due respect (paraphrasing) “He (Jake) needs to move on now and so do we”. This team has to play the rest of the season with the men that can play. ISU still has a great shot at winning those 4 + B12 games. This team has more heart than any I can remember, and that starts at the top. CPR has taught them to never give-up and never lose faith. They have rewarded him and this great fan base with some of the biggest wins in Cyclone history and the feeling that this is just the beginning.

“It’s beyond pride. It’s a restored trust. There’s a confidence again, a passion that teeters on swagger. More than anything, (Iowa State head coach Paul Rhoads) has restored the Iowa State “it” factor, the steadfast belief that it is great to be a Cyclone...the man’s enthusiasm is genuine to the core...”

I'm pretty sure that this is the most lopsided series between two BCS conference teams anywhere in the country for a matchup that has been played more than 50 times. I find that rather startling when you look at some of the bottom feeders around the various BCS conferences. OU has gone through some lean years over that time, it sucks that we have still only managed a handful of wins.

I know you can never count out a CPR team, and he has proven that time and time again. But that said, with out history against OU and the way I see the two teams matching up, this is the first and only game of this season where I give ISU virtually no chance.

When I saw the Blum headline this morning I found myself thinking-- "Oh, this should be good".

Wasn't disappointed. Always a good read.
