    2008 Jack Trice Re-Entry Policy

    Can someone please post Pollard's official statement on this issue. I could not find it on Cyclones.com. Or tell me where to go on the web site. Thanks.

    Re: 2008 Jack Trice Re-Entry Policy

    There are a varriety of reasons why it will change, but as Pollard has mentioned the only reason that is not our current policy is because we lack adequate bathroom facilities for the crowd in the current arrangement. Once the concourse expansion takes place on the West side (slated for completion by the first game next year) this will not be as big of an issue, so they can finally start locking us in (so to speak)

    Reasons for this range from security to Pollard trying to make fans support the team and stay in their seats the entire game insted of coming in just when we start winning

    Re: 2008 Jack Trice Re-Entry Policy

    Of course, the week after I deleted it from my inbox.

    Essentially, once the concessions and bathroom situation is resolved (which should be next year), there will be no re-entry into Jack Trice, period. The reasoning is twofold. Primarily, allowing people to leave and come back poses a safety risk for everybody - case in point, the Oklahoma student a couple of years ago (2005) who tried to bring a bomb into Memorial stadium right before halftime. Fortunately, it went off in the parking lot 200 yards west of the stadium and nobody (other than the suicide bomber) was killed. Secondly, Pollard wants people to stay for the whole game. I think people leaving for last year's UNI game, then wanting to come back when it got close, upset him a wee bit.

    Superfan you disappoint me... I thought for sure you had saved that e-mail and had it in a hand place. Heck I could have seen you printing it off and framing it because of the way Pollard ripped people for leaving

    Re: 2008 Jack Trice Re-Entry Policy

    FOUND IT

    Oct 3, 2006

    Dear Cyclone fans,

    The spectacular ticket buying response of Iowa State football fans has been overwhelming. I want to personally thank all of you for helping us set a single-game attendance record Saturday night. We look forward to many more enthusiastic and record-setting crowds in the future.

    With festive, record-setting crowds come special challenges, like crowd movement issues into and around our stadium. One of the issues that emerged Saturday was the re-entry policy at Jack Trice Stadium. It is, essentially, the exact same policy that has been in place for several years with the lone exception that re-entry is no longer allowed after the conclusion of the third quarter. We have shared this information with fans in a number of ways:

    1. A letter sent by me prior to this season;
    2. As part of our game-day policy brochure that was inserted with season tickets and is available on our web site as part of the Cyclones Gameday link;
    3. Posted on sandwich boards at all stadium entrances.

    Stadium security at facilities across the nation has changed dramatically since 9/11. As a result, there has been a movement – both in the Big 12 and nationally – to ban stadium re-entry for safety reasons. The only reason we have not banned re-entry entirely at Jack Trice Stadium is because of our bathroom and concessions situation. However, I can assure you that when the end zone is “bowled” in, we plan to completely eliminate re-entries, similar to the policies that most of our peers already have in place (including the University of Iowa).

    Last season, the University of Oklahoma suffered a real-life tragedy at one of its games. An OU student detonated a bomb 100 feet outside the stadium during a game. He had planned to enter the facility – after the game had already started – with the bomb in his backpack, but it accidentally exploded outside of the stadium. That probably saved many additional injuries and deaths. I share this story because having to re-check patrons upon stadium re-entry creates unnecessary opportunities for potentially tragic situations like the one at Oklahoma. As your Director of Athletics, I have a responsibility to ensure that we provide our fans the most comfortable and secure environment possible.

    In addition to the safety challenges, too many Cyclone fans left our stadium at halftime Saturday and wanted to return only when they realized Iowa State had rallied to tie the game in the fourth quarter. Our student-athletes appreciate your support. However, great fans show their allegiance in both good times and in bad times. Fans need to stay and support our team for the entire game.

    Thank you, in advance, for your understanding and Go Cyclones!

    Sincerely,

    Jamie Pollard
    Director of Athletics

    Recall that this was printed before the modifications to the plans were made. I believe since that time they changed the renovation plans to include the concessions/bathrooms, but I'm not sure. It makes sense that they're taking care of one on the east side if they're closing off re-entry.

    Yeah it is done next year. I for one officially do not care. I did not leave for any of the games this year for the first time ever. And you know what, I think I enjoyed the games more when I was not sloppy drunk.

    Re: 2008 Jack Trice Re-Entry Policy

    Doesn't affect me one way or another. I think I left once in all my days of games and that was back in college. When I get in the game, I'm there for just that - the game.

    I will say though, if the new re-entry policy would've been in effect on Saturday, somewhere between 2000-5000 fans would not have been able to see our finish (I am ignoring the numbers that went out and came right back for the 3rd quarter). Earlier in the 2nd half - the stadium was rather empty.

    As the 3rd quarter grew on, our comeback getting better - the fans slowly began filtering back in. I was rather amused.

    I did not notice that, I was actually considering leaving before half and coming back in later on. But I had two unused tickets in my pocket that I would have just used for that.

    We were talking and laughing about it in our section. Could see the east side slowly get fuller rather clearly.

    Re: 2008 Jack Trice Re-Entry Policy

    This year was the first time I didn't leave either. I really enjoyed not walking out to the parking lot to slam down 2 beers and then run back and miss the first 5 minutes of action.

    I really think this will also boost concession sales too. I was thinking about this and a few of us that usually bolted for the parking lot last year now stay inside and buy a Hot dog, Pop, Pizza, skittles etc. That has got to increase sales a few percent if everyone stays as long as the concession ares is run better. Even the guys that want to drink can go get a $4 Coke and throw some rum in it and they don't have to leave. I like this rule the more I think of it.

    And we see the real reason for this policy. Having fans in the seats is down the list a few notches. This is about increasing stadium revenues, pure and simple.

    Hope they improve the concessions however. OU, the eastside was d@mn near out of everything. I heard one person complain that there were no pretzels, hot dogs or hot chocolate left - at half time. I haven't had a problem, this year anyway. But I rarely get anything other than a dog or water at the start of the game. Plenty of others around us have complained about stuff.

    I hope they also realize the gold mine that is the potato-ribbon things. Everytime I go by there, the line is a mile long. Need to get the throughput up on that....

    I haven't really noticed, but is Centerplate the concession contractor for JTS?
