    ISU Passing game: 19 TDs

Currently we have amassed 19 passing touchdowns through just 8 games. That is more than any entire season since 2005. In 2005 Iowa State finished a 12 game season with 19 TD passes.

That's pretty good scoring production out of our quarterbacks, isn't it? They aren't leading the conference in touchdowns or yards, of course, but that's a pretty objective stat.

Last year we had 17 touchdowns in 13 games.

Interesting stat for sure. Kind of sad, though.

Conversely we have six rushing touchdowns this year compared to 14 through eight games last season.

i would agree...considering nearly a quarter were from game. Really just shows how inept the run game is considering if this is clearly a low scoring offense on avg.

Mostly a bi-product of a poor run game, IMO.

EDIT: also, Iowa has 3 passing TDs this year. That makes me laugh.

Re: ISU Passing game: 19 TDs

Considering how much stronger the offensive environment is now compared to history of the league, 19 passing TDs through 8 games is really not the level ISU wants to be at.

Was sort of thinking the same thing. We should have more than 19, but that's ok. As long as it's an improvement from last year.

    There's the key fact.

Oddly though, looking at B12 stats, IIRC we're actually third in the conference (in conference play) in passing TD's.

Well, it's improvement, which doesn't speak real well for recent offensive history, but it's improvement.

It's good, but part of that is simply differing styles. Because we rarely go under center, we don't have much of a power run game, which makes passing much more likely at the goal line, especially when teams load the box. It's simply harder to run in our offense against 8 or 9 guys in the box then it would be with more of a power run game like we had with Ryan Kock in 2005.

I'd heard (but haven't confirmed) that the option play that Woody scored on a couple weeks ago was recorded as a pass. The ball was pitched forward with Jantz behind the line of scrimmage and Woody beyond it.

    Yeah it was a pass.

Anyway I am concerned with total TDs and total TDs alone with the offense.

Lots of 20+ yd TD passes too, which is pretty good considering ISU doesn't have a big go-up-and-get-it type receiver like we did last year with Money.

I thought getting in the end zone was going to be a big problem this year with our shotgun-based offense and small WRs, but credit goes the coaching staff, Brun, WRs, and the QBs on making the plays.

I can't say what it means in regard to success, but I remember plenty of seasons when I would have been happy to see a potential touchdown pass thrown into the end zone more than once per game.
