    Calling all Apple/Mac users

I've been considering upgrading from my 13" Macbook to an iMac for a while now and will probably pull the trigger on it in November or December. I just saw on the apple site that the newest iMacs will be available in Nov (for 21") and Dec (27"). I knew this update/new version would be coming, but I am wondering if stores/Apple tend to sell the old versions at a discounted price or not?

I bought my current laptop almost 7 years ago, so I haven't really paid attention to pricing trends of Apple units as they get upgraded. Surely there are still a lot of the current model out on the shelves that Apple will try to get rid of ASAP before the new ones hit stores.

Check out Apple Computer & Accessories from MacMall, The #1 Mac Warehouse or Apple Authorized Reseller - iMac, iPad, MacBook & More - MacConnection

When new models come out, they usually have good sales on existing models + no sales tax.

    Re: Calling all Apple/Mac users

Go back to the Apple store and roll down the left side to the "special deals" area. Apple refurbs are top notch and come with full warranties. Every mac I've purchased has been a refurb and every single one, even my Powerbook 1400, still work. Sure, there are sites that may offer slightly cheaper prices but you can't beat a full year's warranty from the manufacturer. There are decent prices on there now and the price will most likely sweeten even more once the new ones are actually released.

I no longer need the portability of the laptop like I did in college, and for less money I can get a bigger screen and more bang for my buck in hardware. I do love my current macbook though!

If you use your personal computer like most people (Email and Internet) then I would suggest taking a serious look at an IPad. There are Aps for nearly everything and they're easy to use. I have both and use the IPad 90% of the time over laptop.

They typically release the new models at the same price. You could get a refurbished one on Apple.com. If I were you, I would get the new model since the old one hasn't been updated for over a year.

Agree with your thought process. If you don't need portability you def get more horsepower all around and the benefit of larger screen. You'll want to carefully consider going with the outgoing models. Savings is typically 100-200 bucks at best. The new design and upgrades might be worth the money..especially if you plan on keeping it for a long time.

I second it. I rarely walk upstairs to the iMac. Only if I want to use the attached printer, a few programs only loaded on the desktop or reference the notes stored in the desk drawer. I use the iPad more than 90% of the time.

Definitely go this route! I've been using an 8 year old iPod that I bought from the Apple Refurb store and it still works like it's brand new. I'm very confident the computers would be the same way.
