Iowa State to the Alamo Bowl

Not as crazy of a scenario as you might think.
2012-13 Bowl Agreements - Big 12 Conference - Official Athletic Site

First, we have to take care of our own business.
ISU wins @Texas, @Kansas, WVU. Losing to OU will not hurt us, that i can see.

Second, the big 12 needs two BCS teams. Most likely KSU and OU (or maybe Tech)

Third, we need Tech to win out. Their schedule sets up nicely; toughest game @OSU.

and of course, the Alamo bowl themselves will have to select ISU over texas

    12-0 Kansas State BCS
    10-2 Oklahoma BCS
    10-2 Texas Tech Cotton
    8-4 Iowa State Alamo
    7-5 Texas BWW
    7-5 Oklahoma State Holiday
    7-5 West Virginia Texas

no way the alamo takes ISU over Texas...

I'd be fine with the Holiday bowl, it's somewhat prestigious and in a state where multiple players play (Jantz, Horne).

If ISU beats Oklahoma, we might be doing more damage to ourselves as far as the bowl picture as Oklahoma won't go to a BCS game with 3 losses. Tech I see losing again. So only 1 team from the Big 12 in the BCS.

TCU has a tough schedule left. They could easily lose out which would maybe give us a chance. Beating WVU and Kansas would have to be a priority to get a sniff at the Alamo Bowl

Re: Iowa State to the Alamo Bowl

Big 12 looks like a 1 bid BCS conference this year. Unless OU runs the table, then they'd probably get a spot at 10-2 but I don't think they'll win out.

I'll be happy with any Big 12 bowl besides Pinstripe. The Holiday bowl would be fun since it's something different.

We need a 6th win to be bowl eligible first.....then we can start speculating.

Re: Iowa State to the Alamo Bowl

I don't think Big 12 gets two BCS teams. Better option is to win 3 of 4 and hope for the best, but I'd be happy with 2 and 2 and 7-5 season.

I could not care less what city the bowl is in...I will be watching on TV regardless. I would like to see wins, especially against a school that has a band that only knows one song.

Re: Iowa State to the Alamo Bowl

While I would prefer the Alamo bowl, I would suspect the BWW or Holiday bowl. Isn't it great to have gotten to a point as a fanbase where we can feel somewhat comfortable debating which bowl, not just if we go?

I'll probably go to a bowl game in Texas, anywhere else might be tough to swing.

Why on God's green Earth would the Alamo Bowl in Texas take Iowa State over The University of Texas?

Re: Iowa State to the Alamo Bowl

    possible bowl games for ISU

Cotton Bowl (ISU is gonna have to run the table and hope Tech loses)
possibly playing South Carolina, Georgia, LSU, Miss St. or Texas A&M

Alamo Bowl (ISU will likely need to win 3 of 4)
possibly playing Oregon St, Stanford, UCLA, or USC

Buffalo Wild Wings (have to win 2 and have OU run the table)
possibly playing Northwestern, Iowa, or Michigan St.

Holiday Bowl (I think this is a good possibility if we beat Kansas and win 1 more)
possibly playing Oregon St., Stanford, USC, Arizona, Arizona St.,or UCLA.

Meineke Car Care Bowl (win one more and ISU will have a shot at getting in this game)
possibly playing Iowa or Mich St.

Pinstripe (don't want to go back, but ISU should be in contention with another win)
possibly playing Temple, Cincinnati, Syracuse, Pittsburgh

If the Big 12 gets 8 teams in, we might get shipped to another bowl game.

Of course if ISU loses out, then they'll be staying home for the holidays.

There's a really good chance we could get Iowa in a bowl game though, 2 bowls have us lining up with them.

Will never happen. Bowls will avoid that matchup like the plague.

Re: Iowa State to the Alamo Bowl

I'd like to see us with a Big 10 opponent. Our style of football matches up better against them. Plus the Big 10 is horrible and their best two teams can't go bowling. So there is a good chance we'd be able to just dominate against an outmatched team.
