    Sledge's waiver approved

Tavon Sledge's waiver was approved to play immediately! per Jon Rothstein

I wish him nothing but the best. Too bad it wasn't able to work out here.

    Jon Rothstein ‏@JonRothstein
Iona's Tavon Sledge has received a waiver and been cleared to play immediately this season, per a source. Huge news for the Gaels.

    Re: Sledge's waiver approved

On what basis did he get a waiver?

Honestly have no idea. Didn't know he had applied for a waiver.

Good for him. Hope he's very successful. I'll cheer for him, just like I did for Farnold Degand, Dodie Dunson, and Tasheed Carr. Not Taggert, though. **** that guy.

Happy for him. Really surprised though, I thought it was a pretty typical transfer. Don't know of any reason he'd get a waiver.

He barely played in any games, maybe they are letting him count last year as a redshirt?

It didn't work out here. Nothing bad happened. No reason for us to root against him. So what's wrong with being excited for him?

Good luck to Sledge. He'll have more of these to come I'm sure:

Unless he had a good reason I think it sets a bad precedent. Guys transferring and getting to play without sitting out would get crazy. i assume he had a good reason but you'd have thought we would of heard about it.

Why? I would think more people would be willing to come knowing that CFH isn't going to hinder their career if things don't work out (unlike the Wisconsin situation with Uthoff).

I don't see why this is a problem either. He didn't play much and is transferring to a mid-major. If anything, this is how things should work for college athletes.

    At least IMHO.

He's referring to the national implications and not the Ames-centric implications that you've mentioned. It's a not a precedent that the NCAA would set on Tavon Sledge, so I assume he's got a very good reason.

Also, it's still Division I, so just because it's a "Mid Major" has less than nothing to do with it.

    Re: Sledge's waiver approved

I was looking for this earlier today too. I'm of the mindset of having nothing against him but the waiver better have been for good reasons otherwise it sets a bad precedent.
