    30 for 30 "Benji"-Great watch

Anyone else watch this tonight? About Ben Wilson from Chicago Simeon High school who was the #1 basketball recruit in the country heading into his senior season in 1984. He was murdered 2 days before the beginning of the season. If you didn't see it I recommend catching a replay of it. ESPN is showing it again tomorrow night at 8 pm. Here is the trailer for it:

Agree with this.....just finished watching it on DVR and it was tough. I'd never heard of him before, but I was only 5 when it happened. Just a very sad story all around, but definitely a must watch.

A rediculous story- one of those "what could have been" types. Tragic. The part that I found most shocking that his murder was number 600+ that year. Side note- who knew R Kelly was a baller?

    Re: 30 for 30 "Benji"-Great watch

Watched this last night and it was one of the best 30 for 30's yet.

Just to add in the what could have been. Nick Anderson transferred to Simeon to play with him during his senior year. I would assume this meant they were pretty good friends. Benji was getting heavily recruited by Illinois, where Nick Anderson went to college. The 1988 - 1989 illini team that made it to the final four and was pretty much ranked number 1 all year would have been unstoppable. Also Kenny Battle from the doc was on that illini team.

I understand this was years later and something else could have happened in that time.

    Re: 30 for 30 "Benji"-Great watch

I'd never heard of the kid before but almost squeezed out a tear at the end. Incredible how dangerous just walking around those parts of Chicago can be.

What did you guys think of the guy who murdered him at the end? Seems like the guy has really turned his life around but I thought he was still acting way too innocent and didn't seem to take much responsibility for it.

feel like a broken record because I say this about all of them but it was a great documentary.

I like how they had the shooter on there, but I didn't like how he was acting. The way he was telling the story he was justifying what he did. So some guy stepped to you, that doesn't justify shooting someone. I think the guy has changed a lot but he still needs to understand he was in the wrong.

Agree with everyone on the shooter's demeanor. It's almost as though he expected everyone to say "Oh, well if he was being disrespectful towards you then by all means, shoot him." I was shocked to see is treated as some sort of model rehabilitated felon.

"Don't show a gun unless you will use it"

That was hard to hear. Hopefully one day Grandpa's lessen will be "Don't ever carry a gun."
