The Big 12 is in great position

With Kansas, Oklahoma and Missouri at 3,4 and 5 respectively, and Kansas playing Missouri, with the winner playing Oklahoma, it seems likely that the Big 12 will have one team in the championship. The only way I can see that it doesn't happen is if ISU beat Kansas, Kansas beats Missouri, and then Kansas beats Oklahoma.

The Big Eight is looking good.

I don't know the key to success, but the key to failure is trying to please everyone.

Re: The Big 12 is in great position

The only problem is that a couple of those teams are going to lose in the next few weeks. So really are best chance of someone getting in is to have KU win out. I really don't want to see that happen either. Could you imagine KU in the championship game?

No. If they win out, they won't make the title game. Same with Iowa State if we ever got to that position.

    ***Pure Hypotheticals***
I agree with that statement, but not 100%. I would say if ISU won out in a year that they played Texas and Oklahoma in the same year with both teams having a good year, we could possibly go to the NC game. It would also take a good year from the north and a strong non conference schedule. That's a lot of pieces that would have to fall into place, but let's just worry about beating Kansas next week first

Oregon and LSU are both higher than them in the BCS, so any Big 12 team will need some help to get in there.

Re: The Big 12 is in great position

I Kansas wins out, they might be #1 in the computer rankings. If they do that they will be in the championship game for sure. If Either oklahoma or missouri wins out, they could possibly be there too, but it is less certain. One would think missouri had the better shot, as they would have beaten both kansas and OU.

I don't know........you would think that the strength of schedule for remaining games would help.

Kansas: a win against #5 Missouri and #4 Oklahoma
Missouri: a win against #3 Kansas and #4 Oklahoma
Oklahoma: a win against Texas Tech, Oklahoma St and #3 Kansas or #5 Missouri

LSU obviously would stay in #1 or #2 slot if they win out. Oregon plays Arizona, UCLA and Oregon St, not exactly strength of schedule boosters.

If LSU loses the SEC championship game, they would fall out. Oregon wins out and plays the winner of the Big 12. (That could be Kansas!!)

Re: The Big 12 is in great position

SOS will help KU with wins over Mizzu and what is likely to be Oklahoma. That's a pair of wins over Top 5 teams.

Does Oregon or LSU own 2 wins over Top 5 teams?

Of course, if KU loses, it's all meaningless. But to say they won't get in the title game if they win out is a bit crazy, IMO.

I'm not sure how much one game affects SOS, but since Michigan lost to Wisconsin that should hurt Oregon at least a little.

yeah on college football live last night they said all that needed to happen for Kansas to get into the NC game is for them to be ranked 3rd in the AP and coaches poll that with the computers would put them above Oregon

Re: The Big 12 is in great position

If Kansas wins out and doesn't go to the championship game I think we can finally put this current BCS thing to rest. Its one thing for a midmajor school to go undefeated but a Big12 would cause some controversy. That would at least get people going on the plus one scenario.

Re: The Big 12 is in great position

I think it's important to remember in this situation that Kansas winning out is far from a foregone conclusion. While KU is clearly a very solid team right now, they would still have to win three more games in a row, including two games against VERY solid Missouri and Oklahoma teams, to even have a shot. No matter who you're playing, going 13-0 is extremely difficult to do. That being said, I have a hard time believing that if KU does manage to do that, that they won't be playing in the title game. If KU wins over Missouri and OU, enough voters will put them high enough on the totem pole for them to get in.
