I had tears welling in my eyes and I didn't know about either of these players before reading this article. Amazing and powerful piece. Thank you.

    Blum you beautiful bastard....

“They're very, very hard to guard,” Notre Dame head coach Mike Brey said. “They're really good. And with Niang in the middle kind of wheeling and all those guys spreading you out, they're kind of a nightmare matchup. And they're men. They're really men.”

    Re: Blum: Homecoming

Very well written. Ennis was a dear friend of mine during my time at ISU and after. I still tell his wife that I believe he was one of the guys who truly helped ISU turn the corner and the lasting impact of that is hard to measure. I still remember the ovation on his senior night when they announced his name...now i'm anxiously awaiting the same ovation when he is added to the Cyclone Hall of Fame.

Blum's writing usually manages to make me do all three. Great work!

I lived in a dorm with Stevie Hicks. He was a great guy and I was very sad to hear of his struggles with depression and eventual suicide after his time at ISU.

    Re: Blum: Homecoming

Great article. Coincindently, I was thinking of Ennis, Stevie and Chris Love this week. Loyal Sons that went before there time.

My middle daughter was treated by a pediatric surgeon in Omaha shortly after birth in 2005. Her surgeon was a HUGE Husker fan, but he knew Stevie Hicks and his family and spoke very highly of them.

    Re: Blum: Homecoming

Great article Blum. I was a teammate of Ennis and the Independence Bowl was also my last game. Ennis was a great guy to be around, it was to bad about his asthma, he always had his inhaler close by (most of the time it was tucked in his sock during practice.

Thanks for reading all. These two men were a pleasure to watch. And hopefully will never be forgotten.
