    Mediacon strikes again!

We decided to "upgrade" from our old 10mbps service to a new two year plan at 30mbps. The installer left a couple hours ago and I'm now getting 3.92mbps at the 30mbps price. Well done, Mediacon, well done!

Sorry...I had to vent to someone.

How are you testing it? Wired or wireless? Did you run the test on all devices?

As much as I dislike Mediacom, it sounds like their technician screwed something up as opposed to them trying to scam you. Unfortunately it'll mean having another tech come out in a week to fix it.

What exactly did the tech do? Put a modem in? I feel as though if you're getting online then you should be able to call them and they can fix it OTA.

Yes. He said we needed a new modem for the increased speed. He then proceeded to install a modem exactly like the one we already had (RCA), left the old one here and told us we had to return that ourselves.

Sounds like you found the problem.

Buy your own new modem (DOCSIS 3.0) and don't rent one from them. They'll need the MAC address and some other info from the modem and you'll be good to go.

Yeah I think I'm going to do that. With our old plan the modem was included but with the new plan we have to rent one.

    Re: Mediacon strikes again!

I pay for 10 Mbps and get well over 20 consistently. Just pulled this over wifi on my laptop, while also streaming from an HD tuner in another room on the same wifi connection.

The upload started at 5 Mbps and dropped to 1 halfway through, as if it was being throttled. For a reference point, I'm in Johnston.

I also have my own modem, Motorola Surfboard SB5101.

Subtle I have two monitors and a TV card at home post. I'm sure a man of your status can figure out how to printscreen only one monitor or window.

    Re: Mediacon strikes again!

That's OK, mine randomly drops out for 3-20 seconds at a time, several times a day. I thought it was tied to my router, then noticed it on my desktop as well (never really use my dtop). Mediacom says there is nothing wrong, but, it is still way better than the Qwest/Century Link I had a while back.
