    GamePlan for Baylor

I decided that it was time to discuss a game plan for Baylor this week. I am excited as it will be the first and probably only game that I get to see in person this year. This is pretty much a must win game for us this year.

We need to be very aggressive in this game especially on offense. Baylor struggles on defense and especially in their secondary but we must put pressure on them. This means that we need to throw deep on them, mix up our sets and spread it all over the field. I would really like to see lots of two back sets and get our tailbacks outside the tackles with runs and lots of passes to the flat and/or wheel routes. Forget about not throwing interceptions because we clearly are not a team that can churn repeated first downs even against a defense like Baylor.

Baylor has a pretty good offense and QB-WR combination. They are going to get 25-35 points and significant yardage in all likely hood unless we get some opportune turnovers. Put some pressure on the QB, hopefully with our front 4, but more then likely we will need to blitz some and let our good secondary make plays. We will give up some big plays but we need stops and turnovers more than limiting the speed at which they score. Once they do get in the red zone our defense has a good chance at keeping them to a field goal. Either way we must score a significant number of points in order to win this game.

    Game plan:
    Step 1. Run the Football.
    Step 2. Repeat Step 1.

Shorten the game, limit Baylor possessions and let the defense do it's job.

Obligatory response: Score more points than Baylor does.

My gameplan? Choose to kick the ball to start the game. Onside kick. Recover. Score on the ensuing drive. Repeat. Never, ever let their offense have it.

Weather is going to slow their offense down. Temps in the 30s during the game with some wind. We go ball control and run without TOs and we will win easily I believe.

    Re: GamePlan for Baylor

game plan? Do the exact opposite as last year. I think last year vs. Baylor was our worst defensive plan and performance. We were gashed all over, pathetic all around. I hope this game is not one of the Rhoads specials that nobody talks about that happens every year. We get our doors blown off inexplicably. Mizzou was that game last year. ISU has a lot of work to do. Baylor thinks they can raise their defensive rankings after this game. From what we have seen from ISU I think they should be confident that can happen. This **** poor offense we have seen for years needs to change. We should luck into good offensive #'s occasionally.

    Re: GamePlan for Baylor

    1. I think they need to go with Steele at QB. Baylor's defense is bad, but their pass defense is horrible. Texas had guys wide open all over the field last night.

    2. the Clones need to attack the edges of the Baylor defense with the option instead of the zone read. It is time to start attacking defenses on the ground instead of trying to fool them with the zone read. Once you get teams defending something besides the zone read, it will work again.

    3. Would like to see Woody get more than 3 carries in a game.

    4. Send someone after the Baylor QB every play, and I mean mix it up a little. He can run a little, but he is not as good under pressure.

    Re: GamePlan for Baylor

I've been watching on t.v., so I feel I've been right there in the planning sessions with them and am fully qualified to answer this for you.

    1. Win coin toss and defer.

    2. Watch Baylor score on first play in a hail Baylor pass. ISU gets called for pass interference and unsportsmanlike conduct on the play.

    3. Start hapless QB #1 with an Aw holy hell hail overthrow into the last seat in the highest end zone seats. As hapless nameless and faceless WR #1 was wide open, don't dare try it again but run 2 plays right up the middle "50 Shades of McCarney" style into the unblocked waiting arms of the DL. Shank the punt and give Baylor the ball at the 50.

Just to keep Balyor D "on their toes" occasionally hapless QB 1-3 will actually READ the zone read and keep the ball and get one first down before returning to the game ****** of always handing the ball to the RB like the D expects based on watching t.v. just like me. This is especially true when 8 or more defenders are inside the tackles and crowding the line of scrimmage. That's like 10 commandments stuff - "Thou shalt run into waiting defenders arms as much as divinely possible. You shall be rewarded for you sacrifice in heaven. Trust me, I've done this before."

    4. Baylor scores in 4 plays.

    5. Repeat steps #3 and #4 until game ends while rotating in hapless QB #2 and #3 at variously stupid times almost guaranteed to fail.

    6. After the game, blame it on player execution and coach players to say "We're so close to scoring". Praise the defensive effort regardless of points and yards given up as the best defense ever.

Repeat process for remaining games. Occasionally win a game to throw everyone off the game plan.

We did a nice job of shutting down RGIII and the outside runs, but this opened up the middle where they ran right through us. It didn't seem that we had such a bad defensive gameplan, but they had a better offensive gameplan (or adjustment).

Giving up around 600 yards, we did a great job. RG3 had over 100 on the ground, Ganaway had 200, another guy had almost 50. RG3 only had 200 something through the air, you know why? They shoved the ball down our throats. The DL was spread pretty wide, the LB's were way back from the line. Baylor went up the middle early and ofter, ISU did not adjust.
