    Expecting To Win

It's been many years from when I was an undergrad, but I just love how we are at a point where coaches, players and fans expect us win, no matter who we play. It may feel low right now but it's our job to keep the cameras bouncing due to noise. And Letting the team know we have their back. Rain/shine or win/loose. Cyclone Power!

    Re: Expecting To Win

I'll definitely be there for all our games in JTS, but it's disappointing after a game like today.

But like you said, it's good that we expect to win most games now.

    Re: Expecting To Win

Yah Im on board with this, but keep up this offensive crap and that aura of winning expectations will quickly recede into the usual ho hum of ISU support. Heres the thing, when you expect to win, your expected to win some. I love that we should be winning some but I want us to WIN some.

    Damn offense.

I'm not trying to be difficult, it comes naturally....

    Re: Expecting To Win

Problem is, if they keep losing, no one will be expecting wins.

    Re: Expecting To Win

I know. But i come from a time when losing was OK with the majority of fans saying: 'if the opposing team is awesome' then we can lose and it's no big deal. I just think its cool that we are at a place where we can be in positions for big wins. Where as back in the day (not to date myself but) we were most concerned with 'how small can we lose?'

Exactly, and this is what bothers me about the meltdown after every loss crowd. I was an undergrad when Mac was the coach, and while he was good for ISU at the time, it was almost always the case that when ISU played a ranked opponent, it was expected that ISU was going to get blown out, especially on the road. Not getting blown out was considered a success. Nowadays, ISU fans not only not expect to get blown out, they expect to win games against ranked teams home or away.

Also, outside of the Nebraska and Iowa games, ISU pretty much never drew over 45,000 for a game when nowadays, we draw 50,000+ for freaking Western Illinois. Losing sucks and the current offense is hard on the eyes, but if you take a 15 year snapshot of ISU football, it has slowly but consistently been improving in stature and success. I firmly believe ISU can continue to get better, but the hysteria after every loss is maddening to read when taking a big picture look at the program as it ignores the strides the program has been steadily making.

    Re: Expecting To Win

I'm very pleased by the fact that people expect to win, but I also don't like all these meltdowns. We lost a game to a very good Texas Tech team. We beat what appears to be a very good TCU team. We lost to a Kansas State team that could very well make the BCS championship game... And now we lost a game to what seemed to be a bad OSU team, but is surprisingly still a contender in the B12. Expecting to win a great thing, but don't invest too much into, it can do more harm than good.

That said, even with this loss, it's clear that we can still compete. Aside from Kansas game, we held OSU to their lowest score of the season. They beat us by 3 TDs. Learn from this and let's get the next one.

    Re: Expecting To Win

For me 'hope' is also a four letter word. And i know its totally not cool what happened (or has happened) with the O. When I came to ISU in 2000 I had no clue about football in general. I now know how to take the wins with grin and losses with smirk.

    Re: Expecting To Win

I'm a fan, but I don't really expect ISU to win games where they are 14 point dogs. It's not very easy to win in CFB nowadays. With the inherent disadvantages at Iowa State, I just hope for that one crazy year once in a while. I think that's a reasonable expectation.
