    Random Thought on Ineligible Teams

We all know Ohio State and Penn State are ineligible for post-season play. Is it weird to anyone else to think that an ineligible team could theoretically determine the national championship picture and other bowl games?

If the standings hold true, the 3rd place team in the Big 10 Leaders division (Wisconsin) will be playing for a conference championship.

Last year, imagine that Iowa State was ineligible, upsets Oklahoma State, and OSU loses their shot at the national title because of a team that can't even play in the lowest of low bowl games. I know you play who you play, you should beat all the teams no matter what to go to the title game, yada yada yada; just an odd thought on things.

You think the Big Ten is going to have a role in the National Championship? I don't.

Re: Random Thought on Ineligible Teams

Uhh...that wasn't my implication. Just that this year, two ineligible teams happen to be from the Big 10. Say Florida, USC, LSU, or any school that has a potential national title contender on their schedule was ineligible. Kind of a big deal.

And outside of the national championship picture, if a team goes 5-7 with two losses to ineligible teams they lose a trip to a bowl game. Obviously, they had 5 other games they could have won and people can debate all day whether a 6-6 team should be in a bowl. Just throwing out a topic for discussion that isn't centered around a meltdown after a loss.

Re: Random Thought on Ineligible Teams

Guess I don't see the point you're trying to make about losing to ineligible teams; no different than losing to a team that wins fewer than 6 games, really. However, the few eligible teams that do win 6 games in that awful, awful conference will get serious bowl upgrades since the two best teams are off the table. Bowl season will be ugly for them. Maybe even uglier than the regular season, if such a thing is possible.
