    Why not run the football?

There's all these threads about horrible QB play, put in Jantz, put in Richardson, call more short passes instead of long passes....

Why not run the damn ball?

We have a two speed backs in Shontrelle and Nealy, and power back in Woody. We have two big *** tight ends in Hammerschmidt and Brun. We have a QB that can run in both Jantz and Barnett. Sure, it's not "flashy", but we have a defense that will make stops if they aren't out there every couple minutes, and we are a spread option offense if the system that Herman put in place is still here in some rudimentary form.

We're 0-8 when we don't rush for 100 yards under Rhoads. Give our defense a chance to rest and try to wear down their defense.

It's hard to run the football when our OL can't block.

Let me see some I-Formation. Run options, counters, sweeps, and dives. Throw in play-action to keep the defense honest. Run the clock to keep the score low and keep our defense fresh.

It couldn't be any worse than what we're doing now.

I'll take a run for zero that burns the clock and lets the defense recover over an incompletion, interception, or QB sack.

I agree, Zone Read is not working. We have no forward momentum. Defenses are making first contact in our backfield. Anyone know our Zone Read stats?

We need to take a page from our Tech game plan last year..Obviously we need to run the ball to be successful.

Who cares how bad the OL may be this year. If we are throwing 40+ times and running 20ish times, the defense is gonna sit on the pass all day and we'll be ineffective. Just by attempting to run, we can free up our passing game. Or we can do what we've done today and let them have 2 deep safeties playing the pass basically the whole game. Whether it is effective or not, we have to get back to being more balanced.

Did you watch the game? We tried to run it and couldn't. Our OL is terrible. That's the problem. We can't run the ball because the OL is terrible.

Therefore, we are forced to throw it and once again the OL can't pass protect either, and even when they occassionally do, we don't have a QB that can throw it at all.

We are not in a good situation on offense folks. I said it weeks ago and was hammered for it. Now I think most people see this offense for what it is. It's awful. It's unwatchable.

But I blame the coaches. They are the ones that get paid big money by ISU to get results. If the players aren't executing, it's their job to get them to. And if they aren't good enough talentwise, then it's also their job to do a better job at getting the talent here.

This offense has been BAD since Rhoads has been here. Rhoads is a defense guy, and the defense is fine IMO. But both Tom Herman and Mess have been bad at producing any kind of halfway decent offensive numbers under Paul Rhoads. IMHO, they were both bad hires, but I actually thought at the time that Herman was going to be a good hire, it just didn't turn out that way. Mess is a different story. I think we needed to go out and get someone that has proven themself already as an OC at the Div I level.

But I think drastic measures might now need to be put in place to try to save this season? I don't know what those might be though? Changing QB's has done nothing.

The drastic measure is a return to the run game. Right now, every defense that lines up against us is playing the pass because we are basically a 2:1 pass-rush ratio right now. Who cares how efficient the run game is, make them respect and play the run and put more than 5 in the box. If we have 4 wide and they are dropping 6 or 7 in coverage, it's no great surprise our pass game is floundering.

Re: Why not run the football?

We attempted so many passes today because we were down most of the game. Balance would be great but when you don't run effectively and you fall behind by a couple scores you can't waste the clock by running.

OSU came out expecting the run on the opening drive. What happened there?

All of a sudden, we're passing like were Mike Leach and the early 2000's TTech teams and failing, so OSU gets up on us. Unfortunately, we aren't the early 2000's Red Raiders, so we go nowhere.

I'm not saying we need to run every play, but 22 runs to 47 passes is crazy, no matter how much we are down by. The runs sets up our bootleg action which give us our productive passing game, you can't deny that.
