Crazy but sad day last year

For us, it was nothing short of an awesome experience during and after our victory against Oklahoma State last year. A lot of their players, however, have a different and more solemn memory:

Rematch against Iowa State brings back memories of sad, spooky loss for Oklahoma State - The Washington Post

It was a great day for ISU football but I don't wish anything like that plane crash on anybody...even our worst rivals

pretty crazy duality as it was one of the best days in ISU history, but one of the worst for OSU

I understand the fans/athletic departments sorrow for their loss. But the fact that they use that as an excuse is a terrible way to remember the loss of the womens bball coaches.

I was happy to see JTS do a moment of silence and give the opposing fans their time to reflect. It if were any other university playing OSU that day, I would expect them to do the same.

That was truly one of the great moments in Jack Trice Stadium history in my opinion. If my memory serves me right, all 52,000 were so silent you could hear a pin drop. Glad to see every Cyclone fan show appropriate respect.

But it really affected them...just not until they were ahead 24-7 in the third quarter.

I can certainly understand it affecting their defensive players considerably. They looked spooked in the 2nd half.

Alumni Center had some good tributes that night before the game as well....ran into quite a few Pokie Alums that were thankful that...

The plane crash was a tragedy that has been trivialized into one of the lamest excuses possible.

“They just don’t make any mistakes,” Gundy said. “They play good football and they don’t turn it over..."

It looks like the Okie State fans aren't the only Cowboys who haven't seen the Cyclones play.

"There are five real good recruits in the state. We got three of them. One couldn’t get into school, and the other went to (the University of) Iowa...which is about the same thing." - Coach Johnny Orr

Re: Crazy but sad day last year

I don't read it as those quotes were excuses. It's a second tragedy with a plane crash for okie state. Players take their cues from the coaches and to say it had no effect on the game, I doubt very much. Very sad day for them. I remember the night Chris Street died vividly, we were told at high school basketball practice and it had an impact on every player in the team . Still one of the greatest wins in cyclone football history but I think questioning the emotional impact on the okie state is unnecessary.

I guess i was totally unaware of one of the team buses broke down on the way and they were warming up without a complete team. I would think that this would be enough to rattle a team a bit.
