How strong is the Big 12 going to be this year?

Has anyone heard how Big 12 will be this year? I just saw the preseason top 25. 3 teams in the top 25 but several more receiving votes who could break through. Also, I expected ISU to receive some votes but with Royce and Scotty gone maybe the voters are taking a wait and see attitude.

Very strong 1-8. I don't think there's any national title contenders but the league will be incredibly athletic this year. Just look at the influx of players in middle of the pack teams OSU and OU. After KU at #1, it's impossible to pick 2-8.

Re: How strong is the Big 12 going to be this year?

I kinda think it will be down from last year. Take out A&M and add TCU is probably worse and the same goes for West Virginia compared to last years Mizzou squad. Also I sort of think that the only teams that are going to be noticeably better are Oklahoma State and Oklahoma. I see Iowa State, Baylor, Kansas, and Texas being about the same and everyone else worse.

Re: How strong is the Big 12 going to be this year?

I suspect 6-7 Big Ten teams will be in the preseason top-25, and halfway thru the season that will dwindle to 3-4.

Just the opposite for the Big 12.... We got rid of 4 winnable games with NU and Colorado departing, but also don't have to worry about Mizzou or A&M. West Virginia will be great to see them in mbb, but wish Frank Martin was still at KState for that matchup with ex-Cat coach Bob Huggins.

ISU will be pretty good, but in a very difficult conference. I think they will finish higher than the projected "8th". I will enjoy the media propping up the U of Iowa for weeks on end all the way up to tipoff of the ISU game..

One of the great things about the colossal ignorance of some Iowa fans toward anything "ISU", is to see them shocked and melting down after losing to ISU because they were so sure their Hawks would prevail (since they always assume superiority and don't bother to pay attention to ISU)

Re: How strong is the Big 12 going to be this year?

The Big 10 won't lose ranked teams unless they have difficult pre-season schedules which leads to losses. The perception is already there that it's a great conference (and it may be) and unless they really stumble in non-conference they'll stay up there. Beating up on each other in conference won't change anything.

So why did this suddenly turn into a hawk hating Big 12 vs Big 10 thread?

Our bench press numbers are up, but I haven't checked how the rest of the league has been benching in the off-season.

For a pick-me-up I read the other teams forum a few days ago. I read a thread on this years bball team and found it funny. Many think an undefeated to one loss non-con with the only acceptable loss being at the hands of UNI.

*I can't say that was EVERYONE, a few were saying the loss could likely come from ISU...so not ALL hok's are as ignorant anymore.

Personally I think Jamby should change his name to Captain Ahab. EIU is his Moby Dick.

Re: How strong is the Big 12 going to be this year?

Iowa lost to Campbell last year so I would not predict anything in regard to Iowa. I do not expect them to get to the NCAA but I do think they'll have a winning record. Of course as weak as the non-conference schedule is for the most part( excluding UNI,ISU, and whoever they play from the ACC) anything less than a winning record would be a real dissapointment.

Meh, Texas, OSU, OU & KSU will be better. BU is a wildcard but on paper look great. KU is KU. WVU should be about the same. TCU and Tech will be bad.
Should be a fun year. I think ISU is top 5, maybe 4. Hopefully 1 or 2 :)

Weaker at the top (Big 12 had three top-10 teams last year), but probably stronger on down the line. 80% of teams with a legitimate shot at the tournament.

Strong like ox. But Iowa State finishes in top 3.
