Talk me into/out of getting a tailgating trailer

I have been considering a tailgating trailer for the past two seasons. Part of me thinks it will be good to have a home base for tailgating but the other part of me thinks it will be a hassle for 6/7 games per year. My wife and I go to the games but always end up wandering around because we park at Hyvee and have to find friends who are tailgating. Now that everyone is older we don't go into the student section much so sometimes it's a struggle to find people.

I want a small one with a dish and tv, grill, and fridge. I haven't seen any ISU-logos out there on the interwebs for this so I'd have to buy a custom wrap (if they are out there in Iowa they are hiding from me.)

Does anyone have experience with small tailgating trailers and should I or shouldn't I buy one?

How much money do you want to spend? How nice do you want it? Parking pass might be spendy. Those wraps are sweet, but can get expensive as well.

If you are handy you can get a craigslist special and really do some sweet mods. I have a friend that parks his in the Student section and it's basically a piece, but it's got a bathroom and a good stereo...so it works. He painted it himself and it shows, but who cares.

I say if you have the money go for it.

If you can get one cheap to try out for a few seasons, that might be worth it. You don't have to spend a lot of money, you can paint it yourself, and people will still think it's awesome in the lot.

Where are you going to store it? Do you already have a place identified?

As far as talking you out of it, that's all I got.

Do it. When you're wife leaves you, you'll already have a place to stay.

If she leaves him, he can stay in his home.

Re: Talk me into/out of getting a tailgating trailer

It's awesome, but be prepared to spend some dough:

It costs $1100 to get a spot in the RV lot ($1000 donation to the NCC and $100 for the parking pass).
Storage - will cost $35-$45 per month (outdoor storage) unless you have another place you can store it
Generator - If you buy a trailer, it will not come with a generator. They cost from $300-$3000 depending on what you get
Maintenance - you'll have repairs and upkeep costs, there is no telling how much
Towing/hitch - depending on the trailer you get, you will need the proper hitch to tow it (ours cost $500)
Break controller - if it has electric breaks, you'll be dropping ~$100 on a break controller

Don't go into this lightly - you've got to be serious about your tailgating to justify it.

Re: Talk me into/out of getting a tailgating trailer

Question-Can you pull, say a 20 ft enclosed trailer into the student lots? I have one and was thinking for that WVU game it may be nice to have a heater hooked up in there not to mention just having it in general.

It's all snark from here on out

    Way to kill the mood.

There are signs in the grass lots that says Tailers - $40. So that's quite a bit cheaper than $1100.

Based on all this my desire to look cool seems to be far more expensive than I thought. I'll have to go back to walking around like a sucker unless we start a collection.
