    Shoe choice and traction

Before the game or very early on, the sideline reporter was talking about how our players have a choice of cleat - rubber molded or steel insert/changeable. It seemed like our guys were having a harder time with the wet grass than KSU, slipping around a lot more. WR falling, DB falling, etc appeared to be an issue for us and not KSU. Did anybody else notice this? Why would a guy choose the molded cleat when it's pretty obvious that a longer cleat would be an advantage on a rainy day like last Saturday?

You can spend a lot of time and money picking out the perfect floral bouquet for your date ... but you're probably better off checking if you have bad breath and taking the porn out of the glove compartment.

The moral: you gain more by not being stupid, than you do by being smart. Smart gets neutralized by other smart people. Stupid does not.

I'd have to imagine it's a traction vs speed trade off

I remember back in my day (in HS ball) all of the "speed" guys chose the short molded cleats no matter what. They felt it made a huge difference over the replaceables.

Shoes will make a little bit of diffrence. The whole thing about playing on a wet surface is body control. You have to keep your feet underneath you a lot more then on perfect conditions. Big strides and hard wild cuts will just put you on your butt in the wet grass. I don't think the field was too bad on Saturday but the less than ideal conditions really played into the hands of the KSU offense.

That must have been my problem. I worn replaceables and was slow as crap.

    Re: Shoe choice and traction

It could be a matter of players who normally wear molded cleats didn't break-in any detachable cleats before the game. Wearing brand new cleats sucks, so they went with speed & comfort.

Also, the molded cleats are more comfortable on the sole of an athlete's foot. The pressure points of a molded vs detachable cleat are different and odd or new pressure from the detach cleat can throw someone off. Lastly, the molded cleats have more cleats on them:
