Great article. It sounds like redshirting her might be a real possibility due to her injuries.

Cool story! I hope she does well at Iowa State. I saw her play a game last season and I wasn't really impressed. I'm sure Fennelly has it figured out though. Surprising that she said she never lifted in high school.

It seems like a lot of kids say they didn't lift in high school. I'm not exactly sure why it isn't pushed as much. I think it was Tyseanna (could be wrong? - a recruit recently anyway) that said she was definitely going to have to start working out/lifting.

It's unfortunate Maddy hasn't been able to practice much. Hopefully she heals quickly and can get back on the floor.

I didn't realize she has not been able to practice yet.

Maybe it will be better for her and ISU to red-shirt her this year. Let her get healed completely, adapt to college ball, and then have her here for 4 more years. It seems with the returning post players, she may not see that much time this year anyway.

It's good to have players who really want to be here.

I always though it was "chomping at the bit".

I find it amazing that their basketball program at South Tama does not lift weights.

i may be wrong but I believe champing is the preferred version from the grammar police but chomping is definitely used more in U.S. day to day conversations

I think that's right. "Champing" is the archaic word which was once used the same way we now use "chomping" in contexts other than this phrase. Some purists will say we should still use champing in the phrase, but personally I will not. It's not the same as something like "toe the line" vs "tow the line" where the meaning is changing, it's just using the word that is now contemporary.

It will probably evolve to just CATB once the texting folks totally take over and we no longer need this old fashioned language stuff. Sort of like the scene in the Time Machine movie were Rod Taylor finds the old library only to discover the books have turned so fragile with age that they disintegrate to dust when he touches them.

I LOVE it when I hear of players so excited to be here. Sounds like the perfect red shirt situation. Wish her nothing but the best.

Champing is pronounced chomping. Most people have only heard the expression and not seen it in writing, so they think it's chomping.

I'm glad she's chomping. I'm sure she is on her way to being a champ and not a chump.

Here is the grammar police description. Either is acceptable and both mean the same thing.

Don't mean to beat a dead horse, but I've always heard it pronounced somewhere between the 'A' and the 'O'. Perhaps to keep it from sounding like the modern usage of Chomp. Interesting. Anyway, BF has always let the player make the final call on redshirting. People seem more anxious to move on, compared to a decade or two ago. Then, in their final season, they may regret having been so impatient.
