I was shocked that Meyer got to finish the game

after that pick. Austin looked very sharp again today while Meyer - not so much so. Meyer's balls just HUNG in the air forever today while Austin's were dead on. Austin had a 3 and out once but I attribute that to the two running plays in that series. All I have to say is we have a hell of a good future to look forward to!

Poise won that game though, well that and a great defensive effort.

I was thinking the same thing, but after the drives in the second half, there was no way he could take Meyer out. He was on a roll, it was senior day and for a half it all came together for him. I'm glad he had a good game for Iowa State, for the team, fans and himself. Like his play or not, he is a class guy. His off field persona makes us proud.

Re: I was shocked that Meyer got to finish the game

After the second quarter I was saying, "at least we will get to see Arnaud in the second half" After the first touchdown in the second half, I think that Chizik probably said, lets give him another one, and then they scored again and it became apparent that Meyer would be playing the rest of the game.

Re: I was shocked that Meyer got to finish the game

I figured we would see Arnaud in the 4th quarter when we were going against the wind, because Meyer was having major problems throwing against it. Blythe should have had another touchdown in the first half, but Meyer underthrew him by about 15 yards into the wind and about got it picked.

Meyer finished because he was amazing in the 3rd quarter. A couple of his passes were so good that I was cheering before the ball even landed in Blythe's hands.

The start of the 3rd quarter was exactly why he played the entire 2nd half. Great job by the staff to recognized Meyer woke up and had the hot hand.

That ball was thrown toward my side of the field and it looked like the Hindenburg it was in the air so long.

Re: I was shocked that Meyer got to finish the game

I would agreee that Meyer and the whole team got on fire. There is not a coach out there that is going to bench his quarteback after bringing back the team from being down by 21. Then going up by ten in the 4th quarter. You take the chance of breaking momentum and possibly losing. Austin did great and thought he did deserve to keep playing since Meyer was playing like crap. But I thought Meyer played very well the second half and threw some great balls. Gene did the right thing by sticking by his starting quarterback.

Re: I was shocked that Meyer got to finish the game

The way Bret was playing in the 3rd and beginning of the 4th quarters, he deserved to finish out the game. He threw the one terrible pass that was picked but other than that, he had a great game.

We threw the ball down field more than I ever remember this year. It was great to see Blythe and Meyer go out like that.

Re: I was shocked that Meyer got to finish the game

CU did a very dumb thing - single-covered Blythe most of the game - especially in the 2nd half.

Granted, based on what they had seen this year, no reason to roll a safety over for help. But the staff did a great job of recognizing and exposing that - Meyer and Blythe executed perfectly.

I've been tough on Todd this year - but he showed up big for us yesterday.

I think they had every reason to roll a safety over. Blythe has had a tough year because everyone was focusing on stopping him. I think NFL scouts will realize that too.

Re: I was shocked that Meyer got to finish the game

I'm not going to get into that discussion again...Blythe and the NFL.

But CU seeled their own fate in that 3rd quarter defensively. When they had the ball, our defense was just tenacious.

    Tenacious D...hmmmm...

Meyer did something in the 2nd half I have not seen him do for almost 2 years.

Have fun. Great way for him to play his last game at JTS.

Re: I was shocked that Meyer got to finish the game

I liked the aggression showed by the clones offense. Myer just started flinging the ball downfield as opposed to thier standard screen pass/quick slants/etc.

I support the decision to keep Myer in all 2nd half. He had the hot hand, and even though the offense started to fizzle down the stretch, I felt those last few possesions where Myer was in was the right call. Go with the veteren with the game completely on the line. Also with clock management at hand, I knew there would be no throwing in the last drive.
