Big 12 starting to shake out

Things are becoming much clearer in the big 12 IMO.

K-State seems to be at the top, followed very closely by Oklahoma. Oklahoma may be playing the best of anyone right now, and their ranking should go up quite a bit this week. They destroyed Texas, who is apparently over rated. After that, it's really a brawl. Tech is exposing WV so far. Not sure if it's a letdown on WV part, or TT is actually that good. They shut us down big time, so right now I've got a lot of respect for them. Personally, I want no part of WV waltzing into the big 12 and winning it, so guns up TT!

My power rankings through the first half of WV/TT would be as follows. I'm an ISU fan, so I'm giving us the nod over WV and Texas because we haven't be embarrassed yet.

    1. KSU
    2. Oklahoma
    3. Texas Tech (Pains me, but after watching OU highlights over Texas, I'll forgive that loss)
    4. ISU
    5. WV
    6. Texas
    7. Baylor
    8. OSU
    9. TCU
    10. KU

Here is the kicker. If I'm anywhere close, that means are two losses are from 2 of the top 3 teams. If we can get our offense some moderate points (against weaker defenses) I think we have a shot at winning every game left on our schedule (though OU will be a giant upset if we win).

Play hard fellas... The rest of the season is going to be tough, but we have a real opportunity right now.

Re: Big 12 starting to shake out

TT and KSU may well be two of the top 3. ISU has an opportunity to earn 4 but will have to be a lot more efficient on offense to do it. Right now we are playing like a .500 team gunning for another crappy bowl but they have a chance to break through. Sadly it depends on the offense which has been brutal in these big games

    1. K-State
    2. OU
    3-5. Tech/Baylor/WVU
    6-8. Texas/OSU/ISU
    9. TCU
    10. KU

Still a lot to play out IMO....

I would like to see us finish at 6th or better. Anything less would be very disappointing.

I would put Tech at 3 and ISU/WV/UT/OSU/BU at 4-8. None of those teams have separated themselves. The others have.

Re: Big 12 starting to shake out

Oklahoma is the best. Arguing against is a little silly even if KSU is lined up to take the BCS spot at the moment. Their offense turned the ball over in either the red zone 2 or 3 times when they were about to score against KSU...and also gave KSU defensive points. This year's OU team was good enough to lay a beat down on Texas who is better than they have been for 3 or 4 years.

Luckily they come to Ames the week after they get to thump ND at home so its a let down spot and we have a chance.

After that its close. ISU might catch a beatdown at home off Baylor...but beat WVA and OU.

I think WVA will put up plenty of points on the D we saw today and win in Manhattan. Collin Klien won't get them 50 points with his legs.

Not sure about OSU they aren't great and are in transition but they can pull an upset on any team in the Big 12. Tech are solid Doege is good. Eric Stephens was nowhere near as good as the other RB. The WRs are big and look capable of playing on Sunday.

Re: Big 12 starting to shake out

I guess I should clarify that I think we have the opportunity to finish 4th in the conference, maybe better if we can knock off OU. However, we're going to need to be able to get the offense rolling, and we're going to have to continue to play great D. Next week will tell us a lot. This game was a let down, but the fact is that we had the ball with a chance to win twice in the 4th quarter, against the 5th (or 6th) ranked team in the country and a legitimate heisman candidate. We need to capitalize next time we get this opportunity.

OU scares the crap out of me... and the only way we can win more games is if our offense plays better than it has. That being said, I'd like to see us make a run. There is a hell of a lot to play for right now still.

This is based on perception and not actual results. Texas is nowhere near the top of the conference and KSU should be #1 in any ranking for one simple reason. They will be the only unbeaten team after today.

You really hate KSU, huh? We'll see next week, but my guess is KSU controls time of possession and keeps Geno Smith off the field in Morgantown (it's at WVU). I agree that OU might be playing the best ball right now, but the fact is that KSU beat them, in Norman. I see ISU finishing somewhere 4-6, with the opportunity to finish as high as 3 in the big 12 (which would require winning out).

I think that might be their ceiling. They definitely lose to KSU and prob TT. And Baylor and ISU are toss ups.

Regardless of what might happen, had ISU grasped the moment vs. just one of TT of UT, we'd be tied for first in the conference right now.

And yes, tied with 3 or possibly 4 teams (depending on TCU-Baylor outcome) ... but it's called "keeping pace."

After the TTU beatdown of WVU today, I would not want to be KSU and have to go to Morgantown next week. I have a feeling WVU will have a serious chip on their shoulder for that game.
