What would an I State win mean for the program?

It would gain instant credibility for the program.
    Should help recruiting
    Sell season tickets
Make us all look back at the loses to Kent State and Toledo and groan
Another win on National TV...it would be great!

Time to move up to the big time...a win on ABC means a lot more exposure, and it's easier for everyone to get. Let's hope the team we saw in the second half shows up. This is their chance to shine.

The nice part about being on ABC is that they will have to actually review ISU's season, instead of just seeing 3-8 and saying we are struggling. This is an awesome opportunity, and for once, yes this is our bowl game. Gene already has a ton of positives to sell to recruits, this would just be icing on the cake.

Versus has been good for us. Too bad there's only like 200 people watching those games outside of the fans from each school. I hadn't even heard of Versus before this football season.

I doubt many people outside of the diehard Big 12 fans and people in the state of Iowa have any clue that we are playing better.

Good point here..even Iowa State fans with cable don't seem to know when our games are on TV. Little publicity and it's not a channel most people check for football. A real loser for college football at this point. That could change, but it will take time and promotion.

Re: What would an I State win mean for the program?

Versus is a new channel (I think as I found it this year). They have had some decent College Footballs games this year. I got lucky and caught Oregon State upsetting Cal one night on Versus, awesome game. They do not get a lot of them, but hopefully it can develop into another good option so that viewers get more games with a regular cable package.

Versus is not a new channel, I have been watching the tour on it every year for the past like 8 years. It used to be called OLN.

brianhos is right. Versus isn't a new channel, just a new name. It used to be OLN, or Outdoor Life Network. This is also the first year that it's carried college football games. So yeah, most other people had never heard of Versus before this year either.

Re: What would an I State win mean for the program?

For me its about telling the recruits that are games are televised. Even if they took the straps off the contract so the crappy games were just on Mediacom. Games need to get on some how and winning isn't the whole solution. Look at Mizzou against ISU. Mizzou is at Top 10 Team and they were not on TV. Look at Nebraska (Before they went into the toilet) They were still picked to win the north and yet not on TV.

ABC gets us the most exposure, followed by ESPN. Then probably FOX and Versus. By the way Versus is in a LOT more homes than the B10 Network.
Right now if a recruit ask Gene how many games were on TV (because he wants exposure and his friends/family can watch) We can say about 6/12. Good thing we played Texas and OU this year otherwise it would have been 4.
    Iowa
    Texas
    OU
    K-State
    Colorado
    Kansas

That being said. This win alone could seal up 5-10 recruits. It would be all over the media etc...

I caught a good part of the Texas - Texas Tech game on ABC (i'm on vacation in Texas), and they spent at least two straight minutes talking about how improved Iowa State has become. The color commentator (can't remember who it was, though) said essentially, that you can really tell how good a coaching staff is based on where they started the season, versus where they end the season. Then they heaped praise on Chizik and the staff.

At the end of the big, long, ISU discussion, they isolated a camera on the Iowa State flag that sits above the stadium in Austin, and held it for about five seconds while they concluded the Chizik rocks-the-house discussion. It was pretty cool.

I think the point is, the Big 12, and the national media, is collectively acknowledging that something good is happening at Iowa State. We need to quit playing the nobody-respects-us-card. We've gained a lot of respect in the last three games.

There is no way KU is going to take Saturday's game iightly.
