I think one or the other or both would be very successful in the West Des Moines area out by Jordan Creek or West Glen.

If you had the means of doing so would you have the urge to do something similar?
Do both, like Hard Rock Cafe style

You also might have greater success outside of Ames, where more alumni (aka $$$) live

I always thought it would be fun to have a Cyclone themed bar really close to Front Row or The Longest Yard and have big street parties for Iowa State vs. Iowa...

There are constantly threads on here for people looking for game-watches for away games. I think your sports bar idea is good. I don't think clothing would work out as well, unless you diversified it quite a bit and made it unique.

That is YOU, the consumer, that draws demand. You want more ISU product at Scheels or any other retailer, YOU have to DEMAND it! I'm sure that ISU is sick of being a scapegoat for idiots that have no idea how licensing works or how hard they try to get more shelve space for ISU product. Anyone with half a brain would know ISU can't walk into a store and say "put more ISU product on the shelf" without NUMBERS to show it will sell. It's business and a business decision that comes from a retailers corporate office most often far, far, away from where a retail store is actually located. Trust me, ISU will get there and once again become THE CYCLONE STATE but WE need to demand our product in the retail market and then BUY IT!

Easy there killer, just relaying what I've been told by people in the retail business that deal with college and pro licensed items. I have specifically asked why I see certain Hawkeye or other college team apparel that is really cool but the same item isn't availabe for ISU. They have told me that their vendors tell them it's b/c Iowa and some other colleges are more lenient when it comes to licensing products than ISU is. Now that could mean a variety of things. I'm sure ISU lets all of the same merchandisers/vendors to make ISU products as all of the other colleges but they may limit the amount or type of items that they can make. I'm not sure, just relaying what I've been told.

Exactly re your bar comment. An ISU themed bar that had a subscription to cyclones.tv would be a good place for them all to go. Like I said it would be more about location. In the right location it could be very successful, especially if it had a good menu to go along with the good booze! The clothing/accessory thing could also just be a little shop inside the bar

If you can keep expenses down, atomosphere and classiness up, and prices afordable people will come. Too many sports bars are too generic. If you do somthing diffrent it could work.

I don't know anything about West DSM or Ankeny though. Lots of things are in strip malls and tough to find. I thin that sends lots of start ups out of business. Its all about location location location

    Re: ISU Themed Business?

Don't any of you Des Moines people remember Off Campus, that store that sold Iowa State and Iowa stuff exclusively? They added UNI later. Had two locations in Des Moines, one by Hobby Lobby on Merle Hay and one out by Valley West. It was open for a number of years before closing down.

And regarding the ISU bar, guess this bunch hasn't heard of Keg Stand, it is owned by Clone fans and caters to Clone fans. You guys could be talking about a more Cyclone-themed bar, though, like Wallaby's.

Maybe you could call it the "Case IH Red Zone" and have tractor night in the 20-yard painted parking lot.

Their prices are kind of high, and I have to wonder if the website helps support the brick-and-mortar side of the operatoin.

Since I live in Ankeny, I'd be down for it. I hate to say it, but a great location doesn't really come to mind. Maybe north Ankeny on Ankeny Blvd, like where that Kum & Go and Dahl's is, by Sports Page. To be honest, though, all the money is over in the Jordan Creek area, and sadly, that's why everything that is awesome is being built there. If you build a Cyclone-themed sports bar in that area, it could become a destination bar for those coming in from out of town on the weekends.
