    keys to victory

    1. the running game- especially with the possibility of rain saturday. i think we will see alot more of woody. he should get a good amount of carries, and be in there as a blocker. james white should get a season high in carries.

    2. time of possession- very important! keep collin klein on the sideline as much as possible. our D is damn good, but their offense is tricky becuase klein can beat you on the ground or in the air.

    3. pressure on the QB- something we have lacked in the CPR era, but looked great last week. there were alot of times where we got into the backfield but didn't make the plays on a young QB. klein will burn us if we get into the backfield and he escapes.

    4. tackling- k-state is really good and avoiding and breaking tackles, and lets face it, we are not the best tackling out there (not including klein and knott of course)

    5. coaching- hear me out on this one... paul rhoads has to out-coach skeletor on saturday. and he is definately capable of doing so. play calling is gonna have to be excellent for us to win. our defensive play calling will have to be flawless as well.

Establishing the run game generally translates into winning time of possession battle. Bill Snyder coached teams are not flashy in any sense. They play smart, sound football and let you make a mistake and capitalize off that mistake. If we come out and play Cyclone football, we can beat KSU. We are as athletic as them, and as fast as them we just need to play up to the level we are capable of.

yep! last year we hung with them but mistakes cost us the game. seems to me like our penalties are way down this year. now we gotta get the turnovers under control. only 1 turnover vs TCU is a step in the right direction

    Re: keys to victory

I like the emphasis on time of possession rather than rushing yards. I love when we run it a lot, but I also want to take what the defense gives us. If they stack up against the run, then we should make them pay for it through the air.

I'd take some more false starts in exchange for the push off the line KO and Hicks gave us.

    Re: keys to victory

Stay in front of them defensively. Don't let them get to the edge. Swarm the ball, and don't let them pick up an extra 2-3 yards falling forward. I'm actually most concerned about our defense holding up the entire game. I feel like we can put enough drives together to score 21 - 28 points, but getting enough stops against their offense to win has me nervous.

Agree with all. Need to keep our D fresh...also need to win turnover battle for sure. I also think get ahead...we don't want to play from behind.

    Re: keys to victory

KSU has a habit of starting games slow. It is critical that we score on our the first 2 or 3 times we have the ball to make them play from behind and play in a way they are not as comfortable. The secret to the OSU game last year we make the QB uncomfortable. Same holds true with KSU. Make them do something on offense they don't want to do. They are not designed to come from behind, so that is where we have to put them. Get that lead of 10-14 points before half time and make them change what they want to do. Our defense can then pick them apart.
