    Jake McDonough

The whole defense was awesome. I hate to single anyone out. Jake Knott and AJ were amazing...again. Secondary was awesome...again. D line was really good again. But I feel like we don't talk about Jake McDonough enough.

I had to watch the game after it was over so I had the luxury of rewinding and watching a lot of things twice. Jake is just a monster. He was unblockable. TCU had to double team him a lot, and many times it didn't matter, but when he was one on one with any TCU lineman he just crushed them. He absolutely treated their line like a bunch of little women. And really, it has been this way since the middle of last year now. He simply isn't blockable one on one. Really a perfect example of what ISU needs to do with lineman. Get em in here, redshirt, beef up and become a monster.

Maybe I am drinking some Cyclone kool aide, but I haven't seen a better D-lineman in this conference. And I think he has a shot to play in the NFL. Just a freaking beast. Great job Jake.

And he basically had a year taken of his career due to an illness. Imagine the possibilities.

Yep, he has been in beast mode for about a year now. Routinely just re-establishing the LOS and getting off blocks.

    Re: Jake McDonough

The dude must have some of the strongest hands ever. I can't believe how many tackles he makes by just gabbing a QB or RB Jersey.

The backs almost always break away from other defenders in that situation, but Jake rarely lets them go.

    Re: Jake McDonough

Jake McD not only has the beef and strength but he has upper body strength and great hands.

I think he may have a thinking man's mind as well - saw him try three different approaches to the same blocking scheme on Saturday.

    Dude has skills... and power.

Not like he can just rest on his laurels or anything so he better keep getting better and work his tail off - but it's cool when you are already made of good stuff.

    Re: Jake McDonough

He definitely deserves all the praise we can dish out. Especially given his situation. How many D-linemen get to college and promptly lose nearly 40 lbs. then recover to become all-conference type players? I'm guessing not many.

I agree. He's got some nifty pass rush moves as well. Love to see him in the NFL. He'd fit in nicely in a 4-3 scheme on the next level, I hope.

Jensen and Kron both got some good snaps yesterday. Kron looks to be really improving.

Would not be surprised to see Jake on an NFL roster next year. He's turning into a beast on the DL.

    Re: Jake McDonough

What's surpising is if you knew his personality you would never guess he could be like he is on the field.
If he only had some help on the D line he would be even better.

Henry Simon looks like Frankenstien trying to hug when he trys to tackle. He's a horrible tackler. When he got a free rush to the QB yesterday and couldn't bring him down was terrible. He needs to step up and make plays.

    The same with Laing.

Besides the DE's Jake is the only one doing anything on the DL.
