ISU National Presence, Token Feel Good Thread.

This probably isn't news to anyone. I am sure other people have noticed the recent attention ISU has gotten. BUT, I just wanted to reiterate for those ISU fans in Iowa right now that people nationwide are recognizing our school/team and in many cases cheering them on. I for one live in the Dallas Fort Worth area. People recognize the "I-state" logo down here and always have a lot of encouraging and positive words to say about the Cyclones and Coach Rhoads. People are curious about how we played, etc. This was not the case a few years ago and I personally find it awesome as I grew up an ISU fan in Iowa.

That being said, I also feel like Iowa State fans have a reputation for being humble and cool people which isn't the case for Nebraska fans and other schools(Not my words, theirs). That is #%@ing awesome. Like I said this is not news, but what a great time to be a Cyclone. Stay Classy ISU fans! Rant end.

Well stated. I actually tailgated and went to the LSU/ Auburn game last year in Baton Rouge wearing an I-State hat. About every tailgate I went to, someone mentioned how good of a job Coach Rhoads is doing up here...that's pretty cool to see coming from SEC country.

Great game too...got to see the Tigers trounce the CHIZ and his kitty cat Tigers...I think the final was something like 45-10. Tiger Stadium in Baton Rouge is UN-FRICKING-BELIEVABLE by the way...nothing like 95,000 loud A** fans screaming even though they're up 35 points.

ISU (like most large state schools) has always had a pretty good presence in our nation's capital, but I definitely feel like we've become more recognizable in the last few years compared to when I first got here. More people showed up to watch the ISU/Tech game than the Wiscy/Nebby game at the bar I was in this past weekend. There have been pretty good crowds to watch the ISU/Iowa game the past couple years, and I've gotten a lot of "nice going" comments afterwards. The best, though, is the number of WVU fans that approach me and talk Big 12 when I'm wearing an ISU shirt or something. They're really knowledgeable and "laid back" like us, and seem pretty excited to be competing in the Big 12. I almost feel like they're our brothers in the conference.

When I was riding the train to the Chicago Gamewatch vs Iowa, I had about 3-4 people say good luck to ISU and Go State within about 10 minutes.
When I was walking back to the train after the game, I had a homeless looking guy walking towards me making eye contact. I was drunk as hell so I was just trying to walk in a straight line and not get mugged. However, when this guy gets within about 10 feet of me he yells, "Well.... DID YOU?!?!?!?!"
And I said, "Did I what?"
He said, "Did you guys beat the hawkeyes?!?!"
    I said, "Hell yeah!!!"
And he said, "Good, I hate them."
And we carried on our way.

Wore my I State shirt on a company outing to a Brewers game in Milw. Guy at the turnstyle calls me out and says "Iowa State, they got a good football team. Helluva a game against OK State" Not bad for being in the middle of B1G country.

Living here in northern CA, it's hard to tell our colors from USC, but my kids wear I State stuff to school all the time.

Best recent experience was right after the Iowa game. Ran into a Hawk fan in the Sacramento airport while sporting the I State logo.

I was in Wisconsin for work recently, and ISU (not the athletic program) had a giant billboard up right on I-94 between Milwaukee and Madison. I can't remember exactly what it said, but it was something about Dan Khaneman (sp?) winning the Nobel Prize.

Don't know how much this is worth but I'm from New York and went to the Yankees game a few weekends ago and the billboard for the pinstripe bowl came up on the jumbotron and featured the cyclones. It was pretty cool to see them up there especially in new York
