    kindle advice

    I've been hearing about alot about these kindle things. I thought they were just for reading books and stuff, but it sounds like you can use these to get on the internet. Interested in getting one just for that purpose so when I go to wifi available places I don't have to bring around my big laptop. Heard mostly about the Amazon Kindle Fire, but my brother suggested one called Nexus 7.

    They are releasing, if they haven't already, the Fire HD and then a larger version. My dad's wife has one and its pretty cool. If you are just going to be using it as an entertainment device, I think its perfect. There is no use in spending twice the amount just for the name brand (not just Apple).

    I have a regular Kindle e-reader and I love it. I've read more in the past year than I have in the past 10 years. They are inexpensive and you can rent books from the library. If you have Amazon Prime, you can also share some books and read some for free.

    I use my Kindle reader for at least half of the books I read as textbooks and almost all of my free reading books. I absolutely love it. I would not go back.

    My wife has a Kindle Fire and loves it. Except for the camera, it has pretty much the same functionality as one of those I-whatevers. She told me the other day that she's ready to move on to the Kindle HD. She promised she would download samich receipes.

    The wife and I bought a pair of Nook Tablets a while back...I had mine for about three weeks and she kept hers for about eight weeks. Sold it because it is not a tablet, it is ALMOST a tablet. Apps were slightly less user friendly, and it just couldn't QUITE do what I was hoping. It kicked *** for reading books, I will say that. It kind of reminds me of the way that my phone isn't quite an e-reader, and an e-reader isn't quite a tablet, and a tablet isn't quite a laptop.

    I ended up with a Lenovo ThinkPad and the wife ended up with an iPad, FWIW. I wanted that little extra bit of functionality (integrate with my work function a little bit more), and didn't have a use for the ThinkPad and the Nook Tablet.

    Your mileage may vary.

    You may want to wait a couple of weeks and see what the Ipad Mini does.

    My family got me a Fire for xmas last year and I love it. It's gotten me back into reading again. When we went on vacation I loaded a bunch of movies on it and watched them on the plane. Mine is not HD but on that small of a screen it didn't bother me at all. The new ones are HD and I think they do have a camera as someone mentioned. I found mind so useful I thought for a minute about getting rid of my smartphone. But just for a minute.

    The Google Nexus 7 does sound pretty sweet as well and I'm pretty sure no matter which tablet you get you can get a Kindle reading app for it.

    First off, Kindle is Amazon's branded readers and tablets, so if you consumer a lot of amazon content and are a prime member it might be a good choice. The Nexus 7 is Google's Android tablet, you get the full android app store versus amazon's limited apps.

    I'd also wait for a bit because there are rumors the nexus 7 will drop to $99 depending on the ipad mini.


    I don't do signatures. Blondes, brunettes, and red heads are a different story.
